    Default Source for sailmaker/whipping twine

Both of my sources for whipping line are on backorder. Does anyone have a source for whipping other than Jamestown Distr. or Defender?

    Thanks,

I got some while at Mystic from the WoodenBoat store. They will mail it, of course.

I have probably at least half a dozen different types or weights of official sail twine, purchased from the suppliers who sell me sailcloth - different weights, waxed or unwaxed, small bobbins and one-pound spools. I really don't see anything special about it. As far as I can tell, it all starts as fairly normal polyester twine, and rubbing it down with a hunk of beeswax yourself seems to make better waxed twine than the factory-waxed stuff. You can even stain it first if you don't want bright white. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some sort of mason's twine or similar from a place like Home Depot wouldn't work just as well if you can find one that's poyester and a suitable diameter. I've never seen any sort of catalog hype claiming that there is anything special about the stuff sold as sailmaker's twine.
