    Default Swedish workboat plans

Im sure a lot of you are already aware of Bertil Andersson and his wooden boat plans availiable from: www.batritningar.se

Having just recieved in the post 3 sets of plans, for 14.5 Snipa, 18ft Snipa and 21ft Rundgatting, i can say that anyone who has an interest in this type of boat, wether to build or just to have some well drawn lines for putting on the wall, would not be dissapointed. There are no off-sets, but the lines are there for taking off. I was interested in the above boats as none of them carry any external ballast. The 21ft Rundgatting has really firm floors and should be stiff under sail......i feel a scale model coming on.....

Anyone looking for a traditional sail and oar boat would be wise to look at the "vanernsnipa" section.

Disclaimer:Apart from living in the same country,i have no connection with Bertil, except as a satisfied punter.

Thanks for providing the link; I was unaware of Bertil Andersson, but those are some very nice looking boats. The varnernsnipa are very appealing to me. Be sure to share pics of that scale model

    Cheers!

Beautiful boats! I just book-marked the site.
Are the drawingd accurate enough to build from?

The drawings are scaled,so easy enough to reproduce at a larger size, and produce a table of off-sets. You will need a good scale rule. Bearing in mind two boats built to the same lines were never identical,i certainly dont have any issues using these drawings as far as accuracy goes. I shall be drawing out the stem and sterns for the 21ft snipa full size and develop the shapes for 5 moulds. Planking will be decided on the model, widest plank is around 8in/20cm wide and 18mm oak, planking.Frames are "joggled" 2in thick oak, keel is 2inx3 1/4in oak. I have just realised if its an issue.....plans are in METRIC!! I need to get another scale rule.......

I'd never seen that site before, but that is some serious history there! The 21 ft Rundgatting is pretty neat. Is there any idea of what kind of interior layout it had (thwarts, etc)? The 50 ft Postjagt is a real gem as well!

Brian, the 21ft Rundgatting is drawn as an open boat. The position of mast step and fore- aft rowing pins are shown. My own Vatternsnipa has removable thwarts that can be placed on the seat riser. Most of the similar boats local have 2 to 3 thwarts,in addition to stern seat and some a bow seat. I generally fit only the rowing (forward) thwart on my snipa, leaving more room to move when sailing. She also trims better with someone on the forward thwart and someone sitting in the stern under power. It would have been a working boat, and so would have been fitted out to suit purpose, but a couple of rowing thwarts would be a minmum. Theres no reason why it couldnt be decked over like some of the motor-snipa,having for n aft decks, waterways and an oval cockpit, may an old open snipa has been modified like this over time, and look good! Cheers

those boats are very fine looking. I'm undertaking the building of a Snipa, 580cm lenght, the design is from selway fisher but the lines are very close to the snipa from batritningar. The job progress too slowly...

Hi Skara. ! Nice to take some news of me. The job has been a long time on stand by this las summer for i've prefer to sail and fish with my other boats, and to be be quite honest i have been a bit lazybone. I plan to come back seriously in my work. At this step i began the planking and got to deal with the gardboard first.

When I finally finish my Oughtred Elfyn, I would like next to build a Bertil Andersson drawn Jaktkanot (hunting canoe with sail). I ordered the plans several years ago. They arrived promptly.

    You may want to view:

    http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthre...ight=jaktkanot

It contains information on how to order the plans including making payment.

There are several other threads on this forum regarding Bertil Andersson and his wooden boat plans drawn from actual historic craft.

They are very nice boats. There is often a few made at the Storebro boat building school that come up for sale, as well as many secondhand. Small, but too heavy for a roof-rack transport. Some even fitted with tiny 2-stroke inboards.
