    Default 28' Cruiser

I'm looking for my next [possibly my last] boat build. My wife likes the 27' Ranger Tug, but at $190,000, the price is a bit much. I got the plans for the Great Alaskan, but I'm still looking for the boat to end all boats. Thinking out loud, I might buy a 28' lobster boat, gut the insides and rebuild to my liking [probabily the cheapest option], or keep looking and build from scratch. The boat needs to be Seaworthy, Trailerable, accomadate 2 adults for weekends, and be dry. I know, Tall Order. Oh yeah, I like the traditional style boats, with modern convienence's. Any ideas.
    Thanks in Advance...

What exactly is "trailerable" to you? Sizes and weight wise?

I'll recommend a BlueJacket 28. Eminently trailerable, seaworthy and commodious. Here is mine on launching day last year. Rick[IMG][/IMG]

This 28er is for sale just down the road from us for under $15K. Built in Seattle in 1936:

Thank's for the replies. I love the traditional style. The funny thing is, just when I think I'm sold on a design, I change my mind and start looking for something else. Thanks for the suggestions...

Here's a couple of others. Glen-L Jolly Roger, CMD Trailer Trawler, Bateau TW28 (maybe not trailerable without permists with 10' beam)

We saw a Jolly Roger in all aluminum a few years ago. Very nice boat. I'm building the TW28 but stretching it to 31'.

Home every weekend or a hauled a couple of times per season on a hydraulic?

Close to a design that i have been working on myself the past 18 months are these two raised deck cruisers.

I also like Toms blue jacket boats as efficient hull forms. Cheers

We like the Ranger 27 Tug, BUT at $190+k It is NOT a viable option for us. After a lot of looking searching and pondering we decided on the Bluejacket 271. A lot of the building process can be seen and discussed here.

You can see boats in various stages of completion and it is very dooable for a single handed builder.

Do not want to spoil the party, BUT the CMD Trailer Trawler plans are not available for home builders. The boat is only available from NorthPacificYachts.com.

That's just sad, it's a nice design. They do have a price for the plans on the website? (around $400 if I remember correctly)

Possibly the cheapest option. If you can find one with a bad motor you'll essentially steal it.

A 28' lobsterboat is some serious trailering, though. Triple axle trailer and dually truck kinda serious trailering.

Even a 24'er like this Eastern Pilot seems like it would be a royal pain to launch and retrieve at every outing.
