... If true what could be the repercussions?
... If true what could be the repercussions?
Syed, it's not true and Sherriff Joe Arpayo is a well known attention-seeking right wing nutter.
If it were true, Barack Obama would be disqualified from the Presidency, because the Constitution restricts the office to persons born in the United States (so of course George Washington was disqualified from the office, but nobody seems to notice that...)
IMAGINES VEL NON FUERINT
And one facing all kinds of potential lawsuits. He's also just plain nuts. Check out his Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio
I never learned from a man who agreed with me.
The obvious problem with this "investigation" is that they haven't actually investigated Obama's birth certificate.
Obama was born in 1961, before the age of computerized records. Therefore, his official birth certificate is a piece of paper, stored in the Hawaii Department of Vital Records in Honolulu, HI.
The investigators have not looked at this document. They are not even legally permitted to look at it because they have no legal standing in Hawaii. (In fact, they have no legal standing in Arizona, because the investigation is a volunteer operation).
The only thing they have looked at is the PDF document released on the internet.
It should be obvious to everyone that downloading a PDF document from the internet is not the same thing as looking at the actual document.
The "numeric codes" are a result of the software used to scan the document and turn it into a PDF. Modern scanning software tries to read the printed and hand-written text and convert it to computer text. It also tries to figure out the layout of forms and identify check boxes, etc. It adds this information to the PDF as a separate "layer"... but that is not part of the original document.
This whole investigation is just plain silly. The idea that anyone could download a file from the internet and claim that they have "investigated" a fifty year-old piece of paper is laughable.

More like a media stunt.
We don't know how lucky we are....
Just as a piece of information, when my wife and I were researching her family tree we went to many places to do the research. Not a single one of them would give us access to any original documents. They would make copies for us, or the documents would have been put on microfish (I believe that's what the called it) and we could make copies from that.
Original documents were kept very secure because when the public had been allowed access, some people tried to actually alter the original.
Congress begins every day with a prayer. Enough said.
Microfiche - though they are getting replaced by electronic storage. Let's not get started on how safe electronic documents are when it comes to tampering.....
Glad life is settling down enough over there in Lahore for Syed to pay some attention to what we've all been seeing for the last nearly four years. But now we have to help him deal with all the mind-boggling junk which comes out of the Birthers, Tea Partiers and other anti-Obama groups.
Think about it this way, Syed. If it didn't come out during the Presidential campaign of 2008, it's probably spam. As you can see if you've been watching the Democrats' attacks on Romney lately, opposition research about candidates happens very early in campaigns, not after the election.
If Mr. Obama were actually not a native-born citizen of the United States, it would have come out before he was elected, if not before he won the nomination.

I'd like to know in what way the allegations (whatever they are) misconstrue Hawaii law.Joshua A. Wisch, a special assistant to Hawaii's attorney general, said in a statement. "Regarding the latest allegations from a sheriff in Arizona, they are untrue, misinformed, and misconstrue Hawaii law."
Thou shalt incur undying wrath if thou post anything, however true, that is negative (however so slightly) of the Democrats or of POTUS on this forum.
The United States Constitution , the supreme law of America, has an article that demands ALL states honor the official documents of ALL other states. That went into effect in 1792. The article in question is commonly refered to as the "due faith and credit clause".
Once the state of Hawaii said Barack Obama was born there in whatever year that is the last word. To attack such a document in court is a waste of time unless the complaintant has excedingly strong evidence. Most of those who have tried to attack the president's birth certificate in court have had the cases thrown out.

"it takes two to behavior"
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....Old topic why do we still waste time with this? Almost 4 years into this is too late to do much even if he was not eligible to be President. Interesting to know what would or could be done now if the truth was not what it seems.
Your question would have been germain if Sen. McCain had won the election. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone which I believe was not considered being in the US.
He was born there because his father was stationed there in the Navy and no one thought it would be right to disqualify him for that.
But if the Dems had some birthers of their own it could have been uglier than what we have now
Since this is the United States you are entitled to believe whatever you like. But when you go into a federal court you had better have your ducks in a row. And accusing one of the 50 states of conspiracy is not going to get much of a hearing unless you can roll out boxcar loads of evidence.
Hawaii officials have repeatedly confirmed Obama's citizenship, and state officials did again Tuesday.
"President Obama was born in Honolulu and his birth certificate is valid," Joshua A. Wisch, a special assistant to Hawaii's attorney general, said in a statement. "Regarding the latest allegations from a sheriff in Arizona, they are untrue, misinformed, and misconstrue Hawaii law."
Wisch also said that "not only are Hawaii's vital records some of the best managed, but they also have some of the strongest restrictions on access to prevent identity theft and fraud."
Seasurf, what do think about Romney not showing of his tax returns?
Arpaio has investigated and found enough evidence to show probable cause. His evidence shows the document presented by the whitehouse has enough discrepancies to warrant serious investigation. But even with that you aren't willing to open your eyes, just like the repubs and wmd's under GW's watch.
You just can't handle the fact your guys are just as corrupt as bushco.
i just found out the original obama was kidnaped in kenya as a child and the muslim impostor replaced him
the plot thickens
No matter what records have been released, all they do is demand different records. That's not logical. College records are not relevant to the issue of eligibility.
Now you're making assumptions about documents you haven't even seen.Yeah, quite the sticky situation for ol' Barry; either he lied while applying for college, or he really was born in Kenya.
It's entirely possible that he was born in the US and he told the truth about it.
That idiot couldn't investigate a missing sandwich from the breakroom fridge.Arpaio has investigated and found enough evidence to show probable cause.
You just want to take your country back, right Sea Surf?
Well, Syed, you've turned over a rock and seen the slime beneath. It is unbearable to some that our president had an African father, and lived abroad for a while as a child. No proof will convince them that he is one of us.
The 14th Amendment established that anyone born on American soil is an American citizen. Some on the right even have trouble accepting that Hawaii is American, it seems. I recall during the presidential campaign someone of Fox saying that it was odd he would take a vacation on Hawaii instead of in "America."
Araio is faced with a potentially career-ending scandal involving his failure to investigate crimes against hispanics and some funny business investigating anyone who dared criticize him, and he's trying to distract people and make himself a martyr for the extreme right by this tactic. It won't save him, but it will make him a hero to the nuts. Investigating anyone who points out what a lousy sheriff he's been has been his modus operandi for a long time.
On the trailing edge of technology.
There are a number of RWWs who want to repeal this - the "anchor baby" thing. They're more interested in flag burning and man/woman marriage amendments as replacements (while Rome burns). The 14th Amendment established that anyone born on American soil is an American citizen.
