The obvious problem with this "investigation" is that they haven't actually investigated Obama's birth certificate.

Obama was born in 1961, before the age of computerized records. Therefore, his official birth certificate is a piece of paper, stored in the Hawaii Department of Vital Records in Honolulu, HI.

The investigators have not looked at this document. They are not even legally permitted to look at it because they have no legal standing in Hawaii. (In fact, they have no legal standing in Arizona, because the investigation is a volunteer operation).

The only thing they have looked at is the PDF document released on the internet.

It should be obvious to everyone that downloading a PDF document from the internet is not the same thing as looking at the actual document.

The "numeric codes" are a result of the software used to scan the document and turn it into a PDF. Modern scanning software tries to read the printed and hand-written text and convert it to computer text. It also tries to figure out the layout of forms and identify check boxes, etc. It adds this information to the PDF as a separate "layer"... but that is not part of the original document.

This whole investigation is just plain silly. The idea that anyone could download a file from the internet and claim that they have "investigated" a fifty year-old piece of paper is laughable.

Just as a piece of information, when my wife and I were researching her family tree we went to many places to do the research. Not a single one of them would give us access to any original documents. They would make copies for us, or the documents would have been put on microfish (I believe that's what the called it) and we could make copies from that.

Original documents were kept very secure because when the public had been allowed access, some people tried to actually alter the original.

The United States Constitution , the supreme law of America, has an article that demands ALL states honor the official documents of ALL other states. That went into effect in 1792. The article in question is commonly refered to as the "due faith and credit clause".
Once the state of Hawaii said Barack Obama was born there in whatever year that is the last word. To attack such a document in court is a waste of time unless the complaintant has excedingly strong evidence. Most of those who have tried to attack the president's birth certificate in court have had the cases thrown out.

It's not just an "official document". It is a CONSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED OFFICIAL DOCUMENT. That means going into a federal court waving a bunch of red-neck conspiracy theories will likely get you an invitartion to leave ASAP.

The 14th Amendment established that anyone born on American soil is an American citizen. Some on the right even have trouble accepting that Hawaii is American, it seems. I recall during the presidential campaign someone of Fox saying that it was odd he would take a vacation on Hawaii instead of in "America."

Araio is faced with a potentially career-ending scandal involving his failure to investigate crimes against hispanics and some funny business investigating anyone who dared criticize him, and he's trying to distract people and make himself a martyr for the extreme right by this tactic.
