Default Grassy Sound, Hereford Inlet, NJ

My daughter and son-in-law spent their annual July 4th week with his extended family at the 'stilt house' community in Hereford Inlet. His father Haldy has one of the houses there perched above the marsh. The neighborhood was originally the site of numerous brothels during Prohibition days:

The story (legend? rumor?) is that the community made a huge fuss over the building of the highway inlet overpass when it was proposed and thus held up construction. The state or whoever 'counter-offered' to install seasonal sewer lines, electricity and guarantee long-term leases to the home owners for marshland occupancy in exchange for a go-ahead on construction.

It's nice to see that in some ways the old 'shore' still exists. Great photos!
