australian boat site??

hello all,i just found this site and i was hopeing someone here might be able to help me .im in sydney australia , im looking for some australian wooden boat sites,i have had no luck looking ,so do any of you guys here know of any other wooden boat sites ???i have a what i think is a 5.5 meter hartley ,its a australian wooden boat ,,,if anyone has any information on this make of boat can you please let me know,,,,..this is my first wooden boat and she needs some lovein , ,i am doing all the work on her my self .....so thanks for your time ....and catch you later..

Hi, Albert, and welcome to the Forum.

Hartley's are pretty popular here (although they're actually from NZ originally,) and there are plenty of TS18s around.

If you use the Search function (top right, and almost exclusively referred to here as a "search thingy") you'll be able to turn up quite a few threads where Hartleys have been mentioned/discussed.

There are State-based Wooden Boat Associations in Oz, their joint website being at --

However, there are no wooden boat sites like the WoodenBoat Forum anywhere in Oz, or indeed anywhere else in the world -- this is It. If you can't get an answer to your question here -- whether it's about restoring a Hartley or playing a pipe organ -- the answer doesn't exist.

Dive in and learn.

I have been monitoring the www.trailersailor.com "trailer sailer" forum for a while. I am presently building a Hartley TS 16 in Canada and would like to pick the brains of some others that have set up Hartleys for cruising. If there is enough interest that site will set up a forum just for Hartley owners worldwide. I have already talked to three fellows from down under and got some of the printed info on safety, rigging etc. from the racing associations. The people have been very helpful , however they tend to be oriented to racing. I would like to contact some cruising types. Lets see if we can scare up some interest in such chat. Earl

Hi, guys! Hello Albert. I, too, am posting from my hometown, Sydney, in Australia. My passion is my beautiful 30' Lyle Hess timber yacht (pilot cutter). "Tuska" was built in Tasmania of Huon Pine and Celery Top.

I have been helping prepare her for the big day when my partner and I cruise up through Indonesia and across to Europe and the States in her. My First Mate, Michael Griffith, is a shipwright specialising in timber fit-outs, decking, restoration, etc. He has just finished working on the James Craig, a beautiful C19th six-masted, square-rigger for the National Maritime Museum.

Although well past the age where I can be called an apprentice, (!) I am learning at his side and am fascinated by the traditional art of boat building.

We launched our 7'6" clinker dinghy (Seahorse design) last Sunday at the Balmain Regatta for Traditional Boats. It was a proud moment for me - my first completed project.
