    Default galvanic action

The boat I'm starting to build (Pooduck) will have bronze silicon screws, but it also calls for several machine bolts of various lengths. I think this may only be found in stainless steel. I presume I should not be concerned about dissimilar metals?

Really the question is should I be concerned about dissimilar metals? Cause it doesn't seem there is much that can be done about it.

    The short answer is Yes.

If your boat sits in salt water for any length of time you very much need to pay attention to the metals you put into it. But if your boat lives on a trailer, and is sheathed in FG, and spends just a few hours at a time on the salt, then you can worry a bit less. The best rule is to not mix metals, but that's not always practical. The next best rule is to not put SS below the water line. But the very very best rule is to not use metal fasteners at all, which is entirely possible in your Pooduck build. Use temporary fasteners until the epoxy sets, then remove.

But I must confess that I don't follow my own advice. On my current build, everything below the WL is bronze, but there are SS screws on the interior parts above the WL.

Thanks for the help. I'll readily admit I don't know much about the reactions involved. But I'll do what I can to avoid the problem, whatever it is, within the realms of possibility. Maybe I can find a couple of bronze machine screws. Who knows.

Jamestown and Hamilton have bronze machine screws. Make sure your credit card has plenty of capacity before calling.

    Thanks. Capacity issue noted.
