Really? we have 40 feet of 3/8" chain and a 35 pound bruce type and pull it up all the time with our manual sea tiger type windlass. Nothing to it!

I don't think my windlass has been used for at least 10 years and it was stiff. It's not any more and I oiled up every place that I could find

My Lofrans Royal is easy to use. Slow, but easy. It is sitting in my shop in its shipping box now though. I found the foot switches on my new electric windlass easier to use.

My old Ideal is no pleasure. I'm using a lighter anchor now.

I am not sure the make; no marks.

I used it today, and when oiled up, it was MUCH easier.

I was thinking, sometimes a "double action" windlass can get jammed and only run at half effectivness. But that does not sound like your prob. My double action ABI has to be dis assembled to lube up properly.

On Granuaile and Goblin I had an SL 555. Superb. Two speeds - slow and glacial. If you're in a hurry it's quite aerobic. But who's in a hurry? They do need annual.
