    That seems crazy!

Most my rigs rattle so much, even 6 probes wouldn't be enough.

Just be careful of the fan blades and belts, because you can't see the one end when you have the other end stuck in your ear.
Well,I can't.Maybe you have way larger ears or your eyeballs are out on stalks.
    Safety third.

For ten dollars or so why not get a proper mechanics stethoscope? They are like am MD's but instead of disc they end in a probe.
'Very useful in instantly finding which cylinder is not firing properly.

A decent OBDII systems code reader also has the ability to log pending errors and variations on all sensors that may come and go and look ok not bad enough for a full trouble "check engine" alarm. A decent one will set you back less than $200 and will have the ability to graph numerous vehicle sensors, and the ability to up load findings to laptop PC and even (on mine $159) operate with the pc on line and feed full displays and graphs in progress real time.

I actually am surprised Donn by your comments as they lead me to think that you seem to not have both in your in your toolkit already.

    under $5 at harbor freight.
I prefer their type with the separate hoses to the "chamber".

And then you can pull the hoses out of the probe to tune dual carbs - something everyone needs do do these days...

For testing out the broom handle maybe. For finding a noise in the engine, it's horse****, but carry on.

Contrary to some popular notions, it is not the women, but we men that wax nostalgic.
