A pilot cutter like Lizzie May is somehow, maybe possible but this is strictly a dream.
To have the money to build maintain and sail something this beautiful! Not this lifetime![]()
I never learned from a man who agreed with me.
I wonder if Rob (Portland) has seen that Paul??? She's gorgeous!

Altho there are many more georgeous boat pictures here and elsewhere, in keeping with the thread title I'll have to post this:
Fifteen years after selling my Blanchard Sr. Knockabout and pretty much swearing off boating forever, I saw this picture on a bulletin board with the words "For Sale". It so jumped off the page at me that Kathy and I hopped on a ferry to San Juan Island the next day and wrote a check. 12 years ago and no regrets.

If I thought I could get one across Virginia and West Virginia without going broke or having it fall apart, I would buy one and stick it in the Ohio. I frequently go to deadrise4sale.com and look around, and there are many for sale cheap. But they must be cheap for a reason.
Damfino is sometimes photogenic.

Oh yes I do like that
My wife and I played the 'lottery game' again yesterday afternoon. I have said repeatedly I just want my current boats all put into Bristol condition, and that would be a great start, but there are some good deals on 6mR's right now (a couple of nice boats for <$30K US), and depending on how big that lottery prize was it would be so cool to park one in either Maine or Washington and race with those fleets three or four times per year. If I had the money I could put together one heck of a crew just from my buddies at the yacht club here in Mobile (I am about the worst sailor I know who has been doing it as long as I have. Most of my friends are really pretty good at it). Air fare and lodging. Gruel and bilgewater. It'd be awesome.
I might even ship it to the UK for one of the nice events there and get Gareth to go with me!

Yep, and there's a fleet of 6's at the PHYC, as well.

Good to see so many Wbf'ers are happy with their boats. Can't see no place to put yer bike on Drift though.
Farfalla's Susanne pic reminds me of the many hours I spent hours on Beken photos and a book I have of Westward

Assuming jumping off the page of one's checkbook counts.....
Well she sure jumped at me the first time I saw her. Still does - so I guess I'm with Lew.
I got to race against this boat. I was in a little 20' Blanchard Jr. Knockabout, waterline length about 15 ft or less, and he was faster, but I could point better. Squeezed up under him and claimed rights as lee boat until he luffed up, dropped back and fell behind. Ernie had a good sense of humor about it, his crew not so much.
But it was a great view of that bow, about a yard from my head or so, with a bone in her teeth and the crew yelling at me and me explaining the rules of the road to him.
Grace B has always been one of my favorites, love at first sight.

A long time ago, maybe ten years or so, I sent Mr. Baird an email asking after his boat, he replied with his phone number and asked that I call him to chat. He was very patient and generous with my questions about his boat. A very nice gentleman. I'd love to see this boat in person some day.

Who is she Dick ? (says I condemning myself as a philistine)
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Sorta. Charm, at 33ft on deck, is a 1922 stretch of the 1917 29ft Venture. She's the sister to Thad's Sea Harmony (1937 I think). Both were built in Norfolk, UK. Designed by Albert Strange of course!

Design by Albert Strange, built by Ernest Woods, Charm at Cantley, SEA HARMONY at Horning. Looking beautiful, Dick.
I originally thought venture, but them remembered that she only has one set of portlights and that Charm was bigger by a few feet and then I had a close look at the name board on the side!
You're a lucky man Dick!

Perfect is the enemy of good.
Well yes I think so. I am joint owner with my friend Russell Read who restored her from a shell some years ago. I am gradually buying his half from him as he migrates to power in what he calls his dotage.
I had the pleasure of sailing Sea Harmony with Thad to the ERR in 2010 (an experience which sealed my involvement with Charm), and his absence from these parts in a month or so will be due to joining me over here for the Albert Strange meet in Essex, and the Old Gaffers' East Coast Cruise. It's a b****r to find crew these days!
SEA HARMONY a week and a half ago, back in commission.![]()
There is more than a passing similarity between the 3 above.
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Well there might be!
I'm attempting to buy plans at the moment .![]()

What plans?
Harrison Butler's "Davinka / Vindilis".

Going great guns there! The inflatable is a nice touch. Now to go from the plans to such a day!

She is and I will. Thanks.
Dick, I got to post #82 and I swear my heart skipped a beat. Stunning is too small a word. Can you put up a thread on Charm with millions of pictures?
- Norm
Haha, well I don't have that many Norm but someone just sent me a few they took of us at the weekend, I'll try to get them here tonight (London time) if they show us in a good light. Those with our new tops'l up will not! We haven't quite got the hang of setting it. But yes I think Charm and Sea Harmony are the prettiest Strange boats on the water. Certainly over 25ft 6in anyway...
