Default Do you have a "jump off the page at you" boat?

One that you'll notice anywhere no matter the size of the photo or how little attention you are paying to a page as you flick through a magazine or book??? one that gets your imagination racing???
Mine's the beautiful Charles Nicholson "Marigold".........my "lotto" boat from another thread here somewhere.

In my view, the most stunning yacht on the water at the moment!!!

I can be flicking through any magazine and watching TV or talking to someone and if a photo of "Marigold" is in there somewhere, no matter what angle it's taken from or what size it is, or how hidden it might be, for some reason she'll just jump off the page at me and shout "OI!!, woe up there sunshine, here I am!!". Even in an inch x inch and a half photo add on a page full of other stunning yacht adds she'll jump out to me.

    I'd better win lotto!!!

I take your point ... I've never really bothered to lust after her though , a bit unattainable !

But perhaps if you have a quick chat with the missus ? http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1892...United-Kingdom

    Bunches of them.

Honestly, though, people who have known me for a long time know that I am addicted to boats with long overhangs, so almost any kind of metre or square metre class of boat does it for me. I used to have a saying that I used around here quite a lot, that the 30 squares were what we will get to race in heaven!

I have come close to being involved in syndicates to own both a 6mR and a 30 square at different times, even though the communte to the boat would have been well over a thousand miles. That's how much I love the looks of this kind of boat. Luckily for me (most probably), both situations fell apart, but if for some reason I did become someone with real money you would see me make that move. And in the meanwhile, it gives me something to dream about.

Araminta was the first boat I thought of when I opened this thread too...

Otherwise, I'm still kinda partial to this...

as a cameraman jump off the page at you has two different meanings

I have seen some beauty's during my five years with the slug

and I have also seen some truly horrible ones

In dreamland, Malabar IV always did it for me.
In reality, I tried really hard to get this one in about 1982 . She's a Logan circa 1894 or so.

but didn't get her thank goodness. She went to a boatbuilder who became a friend of mine ,and he did some amazing work to preserve her.

This one literally did jump off the page, I bought her in 1983 and spent 25 years or so sailing her.

    she looked like this...

    and ended up like this

    ....

and then another boat that made me sick with envy to look at came up for sale in 2004. usually they disappear into a family ownership for 10 or 15 years or forever but due to circumstances she came up again in 07. Second time on a page for sail was too much for me...

so Riada is what we do now..

Reminds me of the tale of Keating (as co-owner) of Cambria. The crew named him "Araldite" because he couldn't be prised from the wheel. But I suppose that as he's an auto-didact he never did an MBA.

That sounds like Madigan, a Gil Smith design. July/August 2009 (years are flying by if that's the one you're thinking of Jeff!!). I liked it too except the telephoto lens makes the mast look like a telegraph pole!

Thanks for doing all the posting work Peter.

BTW, all but one or two of those pictures is at least 10 years old. I just got a new camera, so I plan to take about a million more shots of how she is now.

I'll put up a Fiddlers Green gallery soon.

I've recently become addicted to sharpies. I'm right now in the middle of re-reading Reuel Parker's "The Sharpie Book" and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my copy of "The New Cold-Molded Boat Building". And I keep re-visiting his web page and drooling over his designs and drawings. And also looking at any other sharpie designs I can find.

Yeah, I'm gonna build me one of those eventually... being that my sailing waters are tributaries to the Chesapeake Bay, and the Bay itself, it seems very appropriate anyhow.

I thought I was the only one who experienced this sort of phenomenon. Whenever I see a boat with similar lines to the one below, no matter how crowded the harbor, it immediately jumps out at me. Love the downeast style.
