    Default Wanted: Blanchard Jr. Knockabout

As I am a first time user, I am not entirely sure of the protocol for my instant request/inquiry on this site. Nonetheless, here goes:

My wife recently took sailing lessons in Seattle. She fell in love with both sailing and the boat that served as her training vessel. As a consequence, I have, for the last several months, been scouring the internet in an effort to find a similar boat for her personal use and ownership. My efforts, to date, have proved to be unsuccessful. Though past efforts have been unfruitful, my quest continues....

Accordingly, in summary: I am seeking a Blanchard Jr. Knockabout, price negotiable, for my wife's birthday, anniversary, and Christmas gift. Please help

I wonder if I was one of her instructors.

They are hard to come by. I would suggest planning for an alternative choice.

How are you at building? The Center for Wooden Boats has the lines plan and offsets.

Thanks for your reply. My wife maintains that unless you are a transplant from England, it is highly unlikely that you were her sailing instructor. Appreciate your suggestion; however, I/we remain optimistic that someone will respond to our ad.

Depends. Certainly not willing to entrust wife's life to my mediocre shipwright skills.

Sounds like Mike Bird or Charles Fawcett, both good guys. Vern Velez and I strated the Sail Now program.

You might think about the keel version of the Rhodes 19, which should sail a lot like a jr. knockabout. Unfortunately, they were made of frozen snot.

Is that boat still for sale? The listing was from 2009.

With the lines and offsets, plus existing boats to inspect and measure if necessary, there's no reason why you couldn't have a nice, fresh one built to order by one of your friendly neighborhood NW shipwrights.

    Just sayin'.
    Amphibious Macroplankton Oughtredia doublendus
Mostly found frequenting the littoral and estuarine zones in the southern half of the Salish Sea, though sightings have been recorded both north and south of this area, and occasionally, but rarely, inland, in freshwater environments. This species lives on micro-brewed beer and dutch-oven biscuits, and displays brightly colored nylon and gore-tex plumage during the rainy season. Approach with caution!

Yup. Those were her instructors. She praises their patience and skill levels to the high heavens. They can do no wrong. With respect to the Rhodes 19, again thanks for the suggestion.
