If you had you'd be sitting here wondering "if only I'd given it a shot". Would your current life really be much better if you'd quit sooner? Probably not.

Take it from somebody who'd've loved being in a position to even say I'd had a chance, slim as may be. Alas you're not the only one with a "D" for foot speed, and some folks get "D's" for other necessary physical attributes as well

Sounds like a wonderful experience nonetheless.

That's "aptitude," an entirely different thing.

I forgot something, before the trip working as a cave diver for the West Aussie museum on the Nullabor Plain.

Someone said something about 'the youth of today' not doing this sort of stuff. I actually think more of them are.

It was the year I got out off the service. I went to Atlanta's Peachtree district and bought a case of 12, 1000-count bottles of 1750 microgram Sandoz acid to take home with me, as an investment. It cost me my memory for over a year.

My wife got a laugh out of that, too when I made the same mistake as she was looking at it. I guess if I had better aptitude my attitude would improve

Working as a guard on San Quentin's Death Row and moonlighting selling classic wooden yachts at a local brokerage. Doing my first year of law school nights. Yea, I know. A wierd combination.

Flying patrols along the Korean DMZ.

This is one of the few buildings left standing in the former city of Cheorwon on the southern edge of the DMZ. It's what's left of the Communist Party Headquarters and was a radio checkpoint entering or exiting the DMZ. The rest of the city was pretty much wiped to the ground but has become a tourist attraction. Pork Chop Hill is a little further west and quite a bit to the north but it could be seen from one spot on the southern DMZ. It was chilling to see it.

Though this isn't the most picturesque of scenes, as a whole, Korea is one of the most beautiful places on our planet.

Afraid I'm a bit of an amateur/underacheiver compared with this bunch! Color me green - unbelieveable what some of you did/have done. Unfortunately, I didn't have the imagination, nerve or funds (possibly not needed, if the imagination / nerve sufficed, I suppose) to live so grandly. At 24, I was just starting senior year of medical school, and getting married. After reading these other posts, I feel like I missed out!
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....

I wouldn't take "senior year of medical school" for granted. Or getting married, either.

At 24 I was just married with a baby on the way, applied and got rejected for a couple white-collar jobs, walked onto a construction site looking for "temporary" work, and the rest is history.

Gnawing my way through Georgetown university's dental school. I had a beat up old pickup, a pretty clean CB400F and a bunch of guys working for me on the side, doing landscape cleanups and some house painting, apartment moving and the like. I managed to make my requirements pretty
much on time, too. No girlfriends - too busy.

Dating my soon-to-be wife, working full time, going to school at night, sailing Stars and crewing on my buddy's 60 foot IOR boat. It amazes me to think that all that was going on at once, but it was.

Running a "studio furniture" shop, "dating" as many nubile young women as possible, drinking vast quantities of beer, and somehow saving enough money to spend the next year at school in No.Cal.... Things must have been much less expensive back then....

Married 3 months. Working for a power company building high voltage lines through the Roanoke River cypress swamp in eastern North Carolina. Only job I was ever on where somebody (not me) was paid full time to stand by and shoot the water moccasins as they crept up on the welder with his face mask down.

Trying to figure out how to murder my husband -no good SOB, running around, abusive, violent- and get away with it! I knew I couldn't get custody of my kids. My BIL was head of the NYS Troopers BCI, homicide division..*Sigh* I escaped literally -at times I was locked at home in the middle of nowhere with 12 cents in my wallet for months. Then I made a good decision to get into the painters union to get better wages. Then got custody..(P.S. I knew this man 10 years. The day we got married he changed- it was not a marriage license, but ownership papers on me.He was a Sociopath) I won- living happy is the best revenge. My 20 yr Anniversary is coming up(27 years together), while he is old and alone with a 16yr old dog. His kids HATE him also. Amazing that the beautiful family I have came out of such horror. I appreciate every day now.

The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

Studying technical theatre and computer science after my hitch in the Corps, running a radio station and teaching theatre shop classes. Met my wife, but we just bickered and squabbled every time we met, it would be years before we figured out what others knew.

This new ship here is fitted according to the reported increase of knowledge among mankind. Namely, she is cumbered end to end with bells and trumpets and clocks and wires. It has been told to me she can call voices out of the air or the waters to con the ship while her crew sleep. But sleep though lightly. It has not yet been told to me that the sea has ceased to be the sea.--Rudyard Kipling
