I loved this comment from the article linked in YouTube:
But what to say about the star turn of the night, the deranged Dylan Winter? His performance, delivered in an excitable, hectoring tone without a microphone despite the size of the auditorium, spun an astonishing tale of how his You Tube video about Canadian logger trucks became an unlikely global hit, generating enough money for him to buy a tub of a boat and voyage round the UK in it by fits and starts.

I turn 60 in about a week, so I am well and truly in his demographic.

    Thanks chaps

although sometimes "gifted" is a bit of a eupehemism for special needs

I do quite a few talks for sailors

much more relaxed and easy going - usually just 50 people in a sailing club house somewhere

I usually get the organiser to choose the films - or even better just some clips from films

I ask them not to tell me which ones they are going to show

that makes it more entertaining for me

and I can also find out which ones they like

if it should fall flat (never has because it is sailors talking about sailing) then it is their fault - there are 250 to choose from

and then we chat about the films or anything else the audience wants to talk about

from running old engines to bilge keels to food on board to snoring

it is amazing the subjects that come up

this night of advanture was a bit a weird format

    ten speakers in one night

    20 slides each

each slide changes at 20 seconds - automatically

the others were real globe trotters - polar explorers - blokes who had cycled around the planet or two men who dragged a trolly across Mongolia - round the world sailors and transatlantic rowers

my little adventure seemed pretty tame

the mike was also pretty terrrible

to work it properly you had to rest it on your chin

I knew that I would be overmodding and popping all over the place

so what with holding my notes and the mike - and the inability to change the pitch of my voice or wave my arms around I knew I was in trouble

it was in a 500 seat movie theatre in the west end

but I figured I could reach the back with my fog horn voice

I was up third to last and the adrenalin was running pretty hard

plus a can of full sugar coke

so I decided to go for it

one of the earlier speakers had dried so I knew that I would not be the worst

Jill hates every second of it

However, since it has gone up on the web I have had ten orders for DVD disks

It would be great if some google bod saw it and let me have my adsense account back

the truck films are still clocking up 50,000 hits a day

that is 18 months income at $50 a day being trousered by google

that can buy an awful lot of small boat sailing

It was indeed an entertaining and fun presentation Dylan, which saw me sneaking out of work for fifteen minutes to buy a set of ear plugs especially to listen to it (at work of course)!!

And if you need a petition to google just let us know how to plug it, you deserve every penny that they owe you!!!!

that is indeed the good thing about it. you are part of it

the whole thing has been financed by myself and my fellow sailors

it is rather unslick but there are no sponsors to big up

however this is slick and offers great value...... to the advertisers

as for me I shall be concentrating on promoting the KTL branded range of products as demonstrated in this film which covers

the perfect toolkit with that pre-used look - the miraculous galley box and the bike-aboard

The money the project earns pretty much covers the costs of the sailing - broken gear, petrol, moorings, gas, insurance etc
