    Default Winch Pawls

Last night I pulled apart my winches to find several of the pawls ground up and in pieces. The only identifying marks on the winch are MSK on the top and I am having trouble finding any information about them. They aren't self tailing and are probably not worth much, but replacing them isn't in the budget right now.
I'm inclined to try ordering a set of Barient pawls to see if they fit, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this type of winch?
If the Barient pawls don't fit, what are my options? Have them custom made at a local machine shop?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

You might want to go to a boat yard to see if they have some winches that have been scavenged from a derelict boat that got, or is about to get, scraped....
I think that MSK was a low end manufacturer from Japan, or China, and I think that they went out of business..... But I don't know for sure....

A machinest could make new ones from a material that would not crumble.
I bet a Gunsmith could also.

usually the makers rely on some other well known and made paws.(as well as springs and handles) just hit a few places with drum n spindle in hand. having them made for you seems excessive, but if youre up against it maybe as a LAST resort

Those are pretty small parts and can usually be made with a hacksaw, a drill, and a file.

Thanks, I'm headed up to coastal Maine next week for vacation, I think I'll bring a good pawl with me and do some poking around the many yards we'll pass. Maybe I'll get lucky.

I recollect that the MSK winches were Barient knock-offs.
In fact, I put Barient #22 pawls in your winches around 1980.

    But I sometimes forget things.

    Thanks Jim,
Good to hear from you; I was hoping you were still spending time on the forum.
