    $5,000.00!

Must be some kind of sad story why he's selling. . .

****! I bet dude's got 2,500 or more hours in that build and at least $30 grand in materials as she sits.

Yeah... as advertised, that's a heck of a bargain for someone who has that type boat on his mind!

I think you're probably right about that Paul. I'd bet that most of the time when we see ads for half built boats, that there is a sad story to be had also.

I'm assuming that this is #116, a stock design.

The photos show a few signs of being built by a first timer. The interior looks like a travel trailer, except for the sand in the sole varnish.
What is up with the missing plank up at eye level? oh, deck scupper I recon.
No doubt, a good deal. We need some Skaraborgcraft and Potomics and other motivated folk out here , take advantage of the broken dreams laying around.

    Shed and tools included!

Smells like a divorce, foreclosure, or doomed personal diagnosis to me. Too bad.

It's a bit of a head scratcher as to why this hasn't sold in the three months its been listed. The cost savings alone run into the tens of thousands and when you toss in a bow shed and power tools... well that's just icing on the proverbial cake.

I did live in Courtenay for about 4 years and it is a smaller community so I can see a possibility for little to no local interest. But this town is about mid island, and a short drive to a ferry terminal that connects to the main land. So it's not like it's in some incredibly remote or hard to get to place.

The first two things I considered when I saw the ad where; were would I put it, and how would I transport it. Both of these questions involved rather hefty sums of money, maybe the upfront costs on top of the ridiculously small asking price are a factor?

Its really not that ridiculously low a price when you compare it to a halfway finished vintage car restoration or a partially assembled hot rod or kitplane. . .

It just hits folks like us hard, because we know how much time and money and heart has been invested in this project to this point.

Or maybe Gib Etheridge? I tried to prod Jamie Orr but he mumbled something about half the fun is in the building.

    Good point.

I wonder if there would be any profit in it for one of our professional builders in the PNW to complete and sell her?

and building one boat with epoxy was enough for me, thank you! The next one will be plastic-free.

Most of the epoxy work is done on this one. Just finish it off with a laid teak deck and mahogany trunk cabin built up with traditional joinery methods.

Would you need paperwork for an incomplete boat without mast or motor? Is it really a boat yet in the eyes of a customs official and the regulations? I'm trying to google some info but no luck so far.

Maybe you could call it firewood.

I've seen many good unfinished boats beg for takers. I think there are several reasons. First, you're accepting the builder's work to be of good standard, some unseen (possible glue holidays, etc). Then you have to really want that specific design, and have the time, money, and skill to complete it. That may be the only boat of it's design being home built in the region, even the country. Any home built boat can be hard to sell, even if complete. I hope some one buys it, finishes it, and is filled with joy sailing it. But it won't be me, and so far, no one here. If not us, who?
