    Default Woohoo! We bought a boat

    and it's everything we ever wanted for day trips, overnights and cruises here on the coast of Maine. I will still have the sailboat for daysails here locally.

    Last fall I went to Nova Scotia to sea trial a boat designed, built and cared for by Paul Gartside. We came to very agreeable terms today with the owner and we... are... simply... THRILLED!!

    She's the 24' power boat Curlew, shown on this thread: http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthre...light=gartside

    Now to get her from NS to here in the next month or so, perhaps showing up at the SRR on the way for a peek at the assembled multitude.

    No settled details on all that yet. There's no rush and all depends on how the boat will be moved, overland by whom, when, type of trailer, where to, etc. Bringing her across something like the Bay of Fundy is a passage I don't want to make until I'm much more familiar with the boat (if ever).

    Things fall together fast. A friend who owns a near sistership, Paul's design #143, will help me bring the boat to Maine with the truck and trailer he uses to haul his boat.

    We went with a local boat hauling outfit and they did a great job, including launching and a day/night at their docks in the bargain while I scrubbed off the road grime, changed the fluids and filters, got the fuel tanks cleaned and filled up with the cheapest, freshest diesel around. All in all a great way to start out with a new boat. She's tied up at The Apprenticeshop pier until Monday when we'll go and bring her back home.

    Journey's End Boat Transport is the mover. They work nationwide with offices in Maine and Seattle; young Mike Starr was our driver here and he was courteous, efficient and professional. http://oharacorporation.com/boat_transport.htm
