    Default Kirby's painted boats

I just got my Kirby's color chart today and I'm wondering about some of the colors.
I'm most interested now in #1 Green Gray.
Does anyone have any pics of thier boat wearing this color? I'd love to see them if you can post them.
I'm open to other choices if you've got a color that's special to you that you want to share.
Going strickly from this chart I'm thinking #1 Green Gray for the hull, #31 Putty for my decks and inside the hull, and maybe #28 Reddish for the outwale and thwarts - if it's not to pinkish.
Anyone got pics of #28 Reddish on thier boat?
    Thanks for you alls help.

I have painted a couple of canoes with Kirby's grey green. I like the color and it gets plenty of comments. The shade does seem to change with the lighting and if anything usually appears somewhat blue green, but not strikingly so. These are the best photos that I have. Good Luck.

Sea Rover's deck and cabin top used to be painted green-gray.

You can see plenty of pics here...

A note of caution, however, Kirbys gloss retention can measured in hours.

I've only used Kirby's Blind Green, which looks a LOT lighter against white paint and in sunlight than it does on the charts. Lovely stuff but 'ware the VOCs if you use it indoors!

I always liked the look of your boat Thorne ( hats too ) Can you tell us about the significance of the flags ? How much scratching of the bottom paint do those rocky beaches do ?

Don't wanna hijack this thread, but the flags are (top to bottom) TSCA, WoodenBoat, and SF Maritime Parks. Yes the rocks scratch up the sacrificial DF bottom, laid over the real bottom just like dorys of old.

Sorry Tim, maybe Scot is mad at me and not forwarding emails. I'll learn to post photos one of these days :-(

Here's a detail of my Oughtred JII Yawl with bright sheer and Kirby Green Grey hull:

It is difficult to get accurate color renderings on the computer. This boat is painted with Awlgrip, but it was mixed to match Kirby's Green Gray. Like Fitz said, it seems to change in the light. At least on my computer monitor, the first photo below appears to be green, but the bottom photo looks blue.

Dave that is one gorgeous boat all on its own, and the color is just pure joy!

Was it truly a custom-mix or is there an awlgrip color number for it?

    Thanks guys, for the replies.
The color looks great on all your boats. I think it's one of those things - the more I see it the more I like it.
I think this could be it. Now to pick a nice contrasting color for my outwales...

Thanks, Figment. It was a custom mix. Awlgrip just requires a 2" x 2" color sample to make a match. I think that the minimum order is 5 gallons or so, but I'm not sure of that.
We used Kirby's #1 Green Gray as the basis, but lightened it very slightly.

Doesn't Sam Devlin use a lot of these types of colors? I've always liked his color schemes.
