    Default Bermuda and other racing

Dorade, and Isla, a NY32--two iconic designs from Sparkman Stevens--are about to start the Bermuda race. Then there is the less-famous DYC classic event, which starts tomorrow. That is expected to be a strenuous reach out into Lake St. Clair and back for five miles or so, with winds predicted in excess of 10 knots. This is expected to require substantial amounts of sun block. Guess which one we will be in?

If you ever need crew for these arduous events. . .

Good luck, Dan. Sounds like a great day.

I've done the Bermuda Race, on a Swan 48. Great race, lovely destination.

Gotta think Bermuda in 39 hours is a pretty good time.

Took us almost three days. Slowest race ever, at least up to that point. 1977.

That sounds awfully fast. Course records were set this year, and most boats still took over three days to finish.

My memory isn't what it was. Maybe it was longer. When was Tall Ships, 1976, oops. All I can recall is being totally becalmed for a good part of a day after we punched through the Gulf Stream. There were still yachts out there that didn't finish in time before they called it. Saw a few of the Class A square riggers on the high seas, way cool as they were under full sail and barely making way. By the time we flew back to RI and went home to Newport the wharves and harbor were full. Later they left for NYC, OpSail, IIRC.
