That is simply a poor design and unless it is on a very small boat it should never be trusted as a true mooring bit. Too bad you've done such nice work but I'm thinking you would have been much better off omitting the sampson post and installing one or even a pair of mooring cleats which could have been properly bedded and thru-bolted.
I would hate to see you loose your boat (what is she?) with this rig.
