1969 Mercedes 250
I've got my grandfather's old car, a beauty from 100 feet away....but it's been driven every year. Went from him to my dad to me. It has a straight 6 with duel carbs. There's a short section of fuel line between the two. It's dripping and needs to get replaced. Anyone know offhand what diameter the fuel hose would be? I'd like to have new hose in hand when I go to work on it.

Get yerself a couple of feet of braided fuel line and a couple of hose clamps at the hardware store, and bring yer little tubing cutter.... Cut out the bad spot, splice in the braided line, and yer good to go until you can replace the line with solid line properly.... I did this with a bad piece of solid fuel line on my '53 Jeep about 10 years ago...... Somehow I've yet to find the proper replacement line....

Because the braided line resists collapsing under vacuum better than plain rubber. Maybe it's not needed, but I figured better safer, than sorrier...

It's a short section of hose, dripping at one end. I suspect that the leaker has a fractional I.D. and I need a metric I.D. Cranking the hose clamp tighter didn't stop it.

Might be hose rot. I'd still bring a section of new hose, and try that. Worse comes to worse you can run the flexible hose from point A all the way to point B as a by-pass. Not a long term solution, but it should get you mobile at least.

That should be 7mm ID and either 2.5 or 3mm wall. You should be able to get it almost anywhere - it's a pretty standard size.
Sometimes you've gotta leave the kibble out where the slow dogs can get some....

Neighbor had one around a 68 he wanted 900 bucks for, I figured the foist time i needed parts it would cost me 9oo bucks.
Still i dreamed of driving around impressing the heck outta Glenn...

Once hose starts leaking there is generally a reason why. The hose clamp backs up the proper fit and serves to keep vibration and such from breaking the bond ( there is a bond formed) between the hose barb/tang and the hose itself and reinforces it against the pressure (not vacuum!) in the system. If the hose is split at it's end, no amount of clamping will make it secure and it needs to be replaced. A decent parts store will know the proper sizing.

1/4 inch will either fit straight off or when you put the ends in the kettle.

I only need about 8". Maybe I'll get a section of 7.5 and 8 if I can find them. The nearest good parts store didn't carry metric. And a couple of folks have mentioned, one way or another, that Mercedes parts are very expensive. I haven't found that to be the case at all. At least with this 250 and the '87 190E that I had, I thought parts were reasonable and easy to find.

Do NOT use that! The gas will disolve it. Only use proper fuel line.

I ended up getting two lengths-1/4" and 5/16". The 5/16" worked fine. It was a snug fit that took a bit of twisting to get it on. The old line was brittle. I wish I had more time to fuss around with this car. I remember offering to wash and wax it for my grandfather when I was 10 in '69 because I thought it was so cool. The original sky blue paint is still in reasonable shape. The windshield glass is impressive. Still clear, no pits, high quality sheet of glass.

Over the years I've owned two 240D's--my mechanic explained that the D stood for "Dog," but they didn't nickle and dime me too much. But they got old, and I finally gave each of these to a church's youth group to restore and sell for a fund-raiser.
But the least expensive Mercedes I ever owned was a 190SL. I drove it for three years, then sold it for what I originally bought it for. Except for gas and oil it was free transportation. Kinda wish I had it back again.
