    Default Oi! Larks!!

    WA's version of "Raw Faith"
Did I miss something? Must have done.... what's the word on this little gem?

Is it bigger than a breadbox?

    Is it smaller than Tasmania?

Could it sink off of Nantucket?

    Enquiring minds and all that....

I don't have a decent zoom lens to get a better photo Vince, but I've been keeping an eye on her as she's just across from where I'm living and watching her on Sunday at anchor when we had a severe storm rolling through she seemed to be pitching a lot more than any boat near by. We had winds up to 140kph (according to local reports) but coming across the bay over Garden island first so the water itself was relatively flat, albeit with a big storm surge, however she was pitching as if she was in a five to seven metre swell.

Having said that though, she did actually look quite well prepared and well maintained (from what I could see), so I'm kind of revising my first opinion to suggest that she's possibly a Raw Faith in appearance only......the owner certainly seems to have a bit of smarts in terms of getting her ready for the storm and she didn't drag like a dozen boats around her that ended up on the beach.

In answer to your questions though, bigger than a bread box, probably about sixty' on deck?

Sink off Nantucket? Good question. She doesn't "look" overly stable, but there's quite a boottop there so perhaps she'll take a lot of fuel and ballast yet that'll make her at least look a bit more stable. As for construction I don't yet know, none that I've spoken to seem to know much about her, though going on the varnish on her topsides and the cleanliness of her waterline I'd say she was built locally and only recently launched.

I'll get my spotting scope out and see if I can get a closer pic and keep asking around.

Sorry I can't offer you more at the moment Vince,

    cheers
    Greg

It looks like an old English galley with a better built version of my skillion roofed shed on the stern!

Looks like it might be gaff rigged and under powered at that. Definitely an "interesting" design.

I posit a middle eastern/Arab influenced build with little fit out and certainly without cargo. Look at the antifoul carry way above the water. What a tub!

Do you know anything about it Gary? No one that I've asked knows anything (or won't admit to knowing anything) about it.

I know not a thing about it.

But because it is still there, the owner must know a thing or two about ground tackle.
