Default Songs for Father/daughter wedding dance suggestions.... and I don't foxtrot...

Wedding coming up this summer.... and I need to come up with an appropriate father/daughter dance song. Two left feet (me, not her), so prefer not to have to learn to foxtrot, rumba or anything too complicated!

A few I've considered - Sinatra/the way you look tonite; moon river (Hepburn, Sinatra, williams....) ... maybe anything by Thomas Newman.

I suspect it'll be pretty emotional for me, so keep that in mind, as well!
There's a lot of things they didn't tell me when I signed on with this outfit....

Traditionally in Germany, it would be a Waltz. Which seems sensible, as you don't Foxtrott.

just ran across tony bennet doing 'way you look tonight'.... very nice, as well. Trying to find something appropriate, that strikes a chord, and doesn't have us both blubbering....

ah, a fine line, it tis'!

George you know well enough that you are going to be a blubbering mess no matter what, just give in to it now and stuff your pockets with Kleenex.

Used to be it was Turn around, turn around, and then wasn't it Sunrise, Sunset?

Which comes first," someone asked Ira Gershwin, "the words or the music?" "The contract," said Gershwin.

It's interesting that most love songs are "love gone wrong songs'.

My son-in-law's mom couldn't think of a good song the the groom and his mom to dance to, so I suggest "Sunrise Sunset" and I danced with my daughter at the same time she danced with her son. I worked out nicely.

We used Perry Como's version. It starts: Is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play? I don't remember growing older: when did they?

Congatulations! Sunrise, Sunset wouldn't be bad at all.

Great suggestions; thanks, all! As I've gone through these, as well as others I've discovered (TG for google, eh?), the line between kitschie (sp?) and tear-jerker seems... narrow.
I've also learned that I apparently don't have a lot of say in this! Who knew? Luckily, I've discovered I'm nearing World-Class status in terms of taking direction....

No wedding is complete unless you do this dance. Instructions below. Best wishes to the bride.

It's gonna be hard to beat your choice of Moon River, I suggest Rob Ickes version, it has a hint of Hawaii in it.

Moon River is a great choice. However, NOTHING will make a bigger hit with your daughter than if you take a few lessons and actually learn to waltz. Took me forever to realize that even if you have no rhythm you can learn most ballroom dances simply because they actually have a form and set moves that you can develop muscle memory for. It has pleased my wife (of 35 years) way more than it cost me.

A few private lessons cost little and will give you the basic moves to look good. Tell your daughter what you are doing and make sure she can actually waltz also, then practice a little together. It will be one of the best memories you will ever have.

In general guys are idiots about dancing. Trust me, a few lessons and a little practice will make you look like the best father ever at the wedding.

'Kitschy', I think. Kitsch is required at weddings, IMHO, but not too much

My daughter/ her fiance' have been taking dance lessons - and it really shows. Quite honestly, I hadn't even considered that, but you're absolutely correct. Not sure I have enough time to get them, but looking into it today! Thanks! And I'd really like to win 'best father ever'..... it's a coveted title.

Too many irons in the fire to focus enough attention on some of the important details. Thanks for the grounding, all.

A tough needle to thread as soon as there is a band present. I will never forget the last Jewish wedding I attended! It was identical to the first one, and every affair in between. MMMMMMM.....chopped liver!

    Too Clever by 2X

Sounds like a band name, don't it? Plus, sounds hard to dance to (what would that be, a samba?)
