Default 37' cat for the PNW inside passage

So I've been working on a design of a house cat for the Pacific North West and thought I'd show it to you folks over here for any input you might wish to offer. This thing has developed over time through a lot of great input and I'd say its just about what I'd say in an ideal ecotouring cat for day trips.

    LOA 37'
    Beam 19'
    Draft ~18"
    Bridge deck clearance ~30"
Target weight 10-12k lbs or less
    ply construction
    diesel <100hp
    Bolger style hulls
    displacement speed optimized
    positive floatation
live aboard whale watching & eco tours.

    yikes
    error invalid file
    error URL to long
error you have exceeded your limit

the include a picture device is torture on this site. Anyone want to lift eh veil of secrecy on how to upload a picture ?

Ok Looks like links are going to have to do.

Right click on the image and select "copy image location". Back at the forum click the tree icon where you write a post and pick the second tab. Paste the location where indicated and finally uncheck the little box below it.

Nice boat. Is the foredeck accessible or is most viewing from inside?

    thanks

The foredeck is accessible from the aft deck area, but for greater structural integrity and because of water intrusion concerns I didn't put an access door forward. Max wave heights have been increasing in this area of ocean and so I wanted a slightly more robust design. The boat is designed primarily for covered viewing since it rains from time to time in the PNW ;-) I'll put in a rail eventually, soon as I can figure out how to do it without blocking the view.

Quite an undertaking. Congrats. The lines remind me of the Beneteau Lagoon series.

Some of the passages between the islands get a Carolina style chop in there (very steep, very short period, and relatively tall) because of the high velocity of the currents (some over 10kts). Not sure if you've estimated the tunnel height/hull ppi for that kind of chop, as I know diddly about cat design, but bear it in mind.

Looks like a nice big platform for cruising people around in.

I originally had a 36" tunnel height but was told that was more of an open water height for a vessel of this size. Then I was told that without some kinda knuckle in the waist I'd likely have tunnel slap issues at anchor. So I'm still working on the hulls configuration under the deck. But choppy conditions are the nemesis of cats the world over as far as I can tell, so what to do about it is kinda a mystery to me thus far. I've heard a 1:1 ratio on beam to draft and I've heard 2:1 as well. So not sure which to go with.

Seems like you loose the benefits from the bolger form by adding a knuckle. I'd also think that given the lessons learned from SWATH design, we'd be better off at 1:1

    Mr Madison
followed the directions to the letter
tried it every way imaginable and there's no prayer of pasting the URL into the indicated box, it just appears on the page behind it rather than in the place indicated. 949 posts later and If I've ever gotten a picture in this thing it was purely by accident.

every once in a blue moon it cooperates if I remember, but it seemed pretty random as I've yet to figure out how it sometimes will work and the vast majority of the time not.

oh well, I'll just link to pictures from here on out. ;-(
