    Default Oakum deck seams maintainence?

I have a scottish ring netter with a larch deck. The seams are filled with oakum and were payed with putty. The putty has all gone and the oakum is very dry. I was thinking of hardening up the oakum with a caulkung iron, then trying to soak the oakum in the seams with Turpentine and Stockhlom tar then paying the seams with Jeffreys glue. Does this sound like the right way to go? I have read of cotton seams being primed with bees wax, but would this be right for oakum? any suggestions welcome.

Harden the oakum as posted, priming it with paint will stop it loosening until you pour the Jeffreys or pitch unless you can pour as soon as the seam is hardened up. You should not need to put anything in the oakum.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.
