Until I read Capt Z's comments, I'd always thought that having a boat with standing headroom would be a good thing to strive for. But now I realise that this was just a symptom from smashing my head continuously on the various low-hung aspects of our Folkboat cabin. Now I realise that if I make room for my head in our next boat, I'll have to engage in more entertaining and more washing up - the former of which I'm inept in, and the latter of which I'm reasonably adept at but which I despise, especially on a boat! So now I think I'll dream about something with all the performance attributes of a longer waterline, and with improved storage space, but with a low, sleek cabin from which I can peer and sneer at those across the bay dancing to the thumping of their in-cabin (I hope!) stereo system while I lick clean my good ol' faithful dish.
Rick
Rick, washing up!!!??? Just put all dirty dishes and pots and pans in a dive bag (the kind that looks like fish net) hang over the side, let the fish lick them clean and keep on dancing. As far as being inept at entertaining don't worry about it. Remember we are all here becuase we are not all there! Capt. Z.

Hmm, thanks Cap'n - I'm nearly convinced!

I just can't agree with that. At anchor is when you sit outside and watch the sun go down for a few hours.whilst at anchor, the cockpit is a waste of half the boat.
The little thing with infinite headroom boats is that they require some time to switch between camping and sailing mode... One must be careful as it might affect safety in certain circumstances.
Just a thought.
While at anchor I will spend about 80% of my non-sleeping time in the cockpit or elsewhere on deck. That is of course except when it is raining. Then the cabin with a good book, and possibly a fire in the stove is a good place to be, and I do not stand when reading.
Hi Peter, dredged this thread up from a long way back. I've been watching a little steel yacht up at Hervey Bay that's for sale on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Steel-Sai...:WNARL:AU:1123
It's interesting the way the colour scheme and general proportions on this gaffer let her get away with quite a tall cabin top and the resulting amount of room inside, at least going by the photos, seems very good for a 24 footer. Something else for you to put away in the memory banks.![]()

Nice!
Rick
A good little boat .
I've discovered the perfect design but I'm a bit reticent about advertising... I've been such a gadfly when it comes to designs but this one has provenance and should meet approval.

Amphibious Macroplankton Oughtredia doublendus
Mostly found frequenting the littoral and estuarine zones in the southern half of the Salish Sea, though sightings have been recorded both north and south of this area, and occasionally, but rarely, inland, in freshwater environments. This species lives on micro-brewed beer and dutch-oven biscuits, and displays brightly colored nylon and gore-tex plumage during the rainy season. Approach with caution!
Come on, out with it Peter.........Please!!!Looking at multiple designs and concepts and changing your mind as ideas progress and new ones present themselves isn't crying wolf, it shows careful planning, consideration and diligence in searching for the best and most suitable boat for your own personal needs and expectations.

Don't forget to tell us what the thread is called and when it's started!
Rick
And Peter, this trailer and stern should both set your heart aflutter. Goes to show it can be done...and this a 27 footer. What a beautiful boat she is!

Details John, details !
That trailer speaks highly of the owner's confidence in tie down straps. I'd love to see more !
Do you know the owner ?
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Interesting angle on those wheels, must be quite a bit of weight there and I'm guessing he does't plan on towing her terribly far like that...???. Is it a new build John? I sort of get the feeling that he's borrowed a trailer to launch her but that it's not really set up for her, it actually looks too short for the trailer.

There don't appear to be continuous axles Greg but there is a rego plate !
Perfect is the enemy of good.
I suspect it's a trailer for a long skinny plastic race boat (power boat)

Sorry I was away, so couldn't answer. These are just the latest pictures from the Danish Double Ender thread on here. The trailer was intended from the start and was purpose built for the boat, and the owner seems delighted. I merely moved the pic over here because I thought Peter would be interested in both the boat and the trailer, though I would presume he's been following the thread because the boat and its construction are right down his alley.
Peter, you could get more details by messaging Matt I'm sure.

Doh!!! Thanks John, I don't know why I didn't recognise her, I'd been following that thread off and on but not recently. She looks lovely:
I don't think that trailer was purpose built for that boat, I gather it belonged to the guy contracted to haul her, John Oliver. But the point you rightly make is more important anyway, being that trailering such a sized boat is indeed perfectly viable!

You're right Greg, my mistake. I misread 'He designed and built his trailer and knows very well how to use it' as 'this trailer'. It's such a great boat though..I just love the way he has put it together.

It just had me searching on-line for truck axles, I reckon Peter could build himself one and then rent it out when not in use.
And I agree on the boat, he's done a nice job.
(and my apologies, I didn't mean to seem a smarty pants...)

No, quite okay Greg, I didn't take it that way. I must admit thought that I was quite impressed that he'd got the trailer designed, because I thought it would suit Peter so well. Now that the reds have won, I'll get to bed...![]()

Have you looked into this one Peter......the owner seems happy with headroom at 5'7".....trailerable at 2.4m beam and 2 ton displace,,,,Gypsy Cutter 24'....quick and cheap build type too
Certainly caught my eye for a traditional style trailered general coastal cruiser 7.25m lod x 6.8m lwl x 2.4m b x 0.75m / 1.4m dft x 2000kg disp

She's a very handsome little boat....wrong stern for Peter I'm thinking, but I'd love to see inside her, she looks like a bit of a Tardus.

How it's done in these parts:-
Canvas sides have been un-attached and rolled up at the lower edge for rebuild, but it shows the "support system" - 4 props. Lift with shoulder (or topping lift/halyard modification) and lodge props on top of corner posts of cabin trunk. On most locally, remove boom from gooseneck first and put on crutches on aft deck. Living space increased by awning chucked over boom, cooking in cockpit +extra berth on the floor...

Very nice but I think if this goes ahead it has to be a hull that will delight me !
Perfect is the enemy of good.
I'm currently living on a 19ft boat with about 4'6'' headroom, and I'm fairly tall. 3 months now and no complaints. Will be living aboard for at least the next 18 months, maybe longer.
unfortunately she's plastic.
Robert
I reckon that hull IS delightful! You should buy it Peter, and bring 'er home! I can send you a map, although it's not very complicated!!
Looks like a lovely boat to me, although that Albert Strange one is just beautiful!
