Vacation to Baskatong reservoir, upper Laurentians near Mont-Laurier, Quebec.

    Beautiful weather.

8 days sailing, bathing, and using outboard when needed,
24 km recorded the first day of sailng.

My 19 ft cruising sailboat is very comfortable.

Charging various batteries is made easy. VHF radio was a must for communicating with other boaters and weather forecast.

GPS cruising was very good and accurate. 164 Kilometers recorded to ''distance totalizer''
I have Trackmap Marine V. 12 inserted in my Garmin Montana 610 GPS. This GPS is awesome !!
This company is specialized in Canadian stuff for GPS.
I also bring my older Garmin GPSMAP 74 CSX GPS in witch
    Trackmap Marine V.6 is inserted.
    Both units are handheld.

Repairs made last June are OK

    G bye

TY Kevin. I think it is a must to give feedback ''AFTER'' construction.

People reading threads like this one will hopefully feel more confident to build their own craft.

    You're right Kent.

Baskatong is my best choice. Located 280 Km from my place, it definitly worth the move.

    Huge in area, 330 Km2.

Fantastic! It appears to be empty of development. Quebec has so many lakes that the people can't build the shoreline full of houses...

Yes Kent very few development over there.

Some private homes, and approximatly 18 outfitters for fishing and hunting.

River Gatineau is the main river. Baskatong is a reservoir, Mercier dam controls water level.

Type Baskatong on your screen and read about the region for more informations.

After vacation to Baskatong, I made some minor changes to improve the boat.
First I made handy shelves to each side of cabin for maps, glasses, wallet etc, etc.
    IMGP5000_800.jpg

Then, one shelf afore under deck to save space
    IMGP5007_800.jpg

I also (was a must !!!) gave her a nice name: ''MARÉE BLEUE'' french name that means BLUE TIDE
I love this name, don't you???
    IMGP5003_800.jpg

Last but not the least I changed 2 fixed portlights for 2 openable portholes
This gives better air circulation in the cabin. I had to make bug screen because they were not available.
They are made from PVC sheet, screen is sandwiched between frame elements. I used vynil cement and black paint.
    IMGP5015_800.jpg

What you guys thinks about that????

Next week I will launch the boat again at lake Toro until mid-september.

What a comfortable boat you are making! Very nice name, and fresh air without fresh mosquitoes is always a good thing.

Getting to be a very well founded boat!

Do not forget to put a knife near the companionway so it can
be reached from inside or outside.
Needs to be able to cut line.

Comfortable yes she is. Cabin is roomy for a small boat. 2 more portholes were mandatory when temperature is hot.

Mosquitos and other bugs are never welcome!!!

Great job. I like the name and also how nice those portlights came out. Always good to have a little storage aboard too.

October - Cold coming back soon.

Before winter, I built a cabin door.

    This was realy missing.

I used oak for the frame then varnished it.

Boards are made of 3/4 inch cedar, not varnished, instead I used teak oil.

I will order later this fall a stainless steel door latch to lock the door to sliding hatch.

This job is the last one for this fall. After I will winterize the boat until next spring. Here are few photos.

I wish everyone good health, be happy and the best.

BTW - Limber holes were not protected against rot. I applied wood preservative inside each limber holes with a 5/8 inch nylon round brush. Looks good.
