I also thank you. Have not made it through your detailed stability lecture notes but will work my way through them.
Like John I also did a 2 week voyage on the sail training ship Spirt of New Zealand in 1986 and also was told about the knock down. There was also some suggesstion that an engine room ventilation hatch?? was open and she started taking on water.
Anyway Sprit of NZ also did offshore trips but until just recently has been confined to more sheltered waters due to age related wear and tear. She has recently had a major referbs to get her back to being offshore capabile. (averages 340 sea days per year so is very active).

Thanks for the reply Roger, if I follow correctly you are saying it is not impossible for me to get there it will just take a fair amount of work on my part. I have pulled all the dimensions off the boat thus far and put them in 2d cad for the refit we did. Taking the lines I'm sure will require a lot more accuracy but I think I can do it. I'll start looking into delfship.

    Small sidetrack.......excuse me......

We did a rough stability study of Peter's boat in the "Just for Fun" thread. You can find the do-it-yourself inclining procedure and other info starting at post #4986 and running through #5386-89. Anyone can take the lines off their hull, you just need to be methodical and careful. If you can get the boat into a shady spot (dark) you can use a cheap to rent laser which is an enormous aid. Figure 1.5 days to take the lines from a 50' boat, and a helper is a plus.
