By all means come Everyone was a noobie once ;~). In fact, it's become a right of passage almost

    Answers to your questions:

    1. We'll be there working all day Friday and folks just start turning up based on whatever works with their travel plans.

    2. I think Hugh generally reserves the spot under the band saw in the shop, but there may be other equipment to sleep under. Kindof like what time to get there, what time to leave is also a personal option based on what kind of time you have. Breakfast starts Saturday am based on what time Friday night stopped

    3. I third the gutair / musical instrument suggestion

See you there! I'm looking forward to meeting you!

We are in the planning stage for attending. For certain we will fly east of the Mississippi this time, if not all the way to the Atlantic.

If you fly all the way to the Atlantic, you've gone too far..... Turn around at the first Gulf Stream, and take the second star on the left..... Then straight on until morning.....

I'm surprised...the gypsy wagon does attract a lot of attention. But the geraniums in the window boxes at the rear windows are charming.

Not me. I haven't been to Mystic for a very long time, and don't have any local friends.

You aren't the navigator on your ship, are you? Anyhow. We'll be there, if nothing changes. We fly into Washington DC (DCA) late on the 27th. Will sleep around there, somewhere, then head north the next day, maybe overnighting in NYC. Then onto the Doug and Carter show the 29th for the party. Bartletts is booked up, so we'll probably just hit a hotel in the area. Then to Mystic for a couple days of the big show. Then back down to DC for some educational and historic touring.

No worries Hugh..... We'll just finger paint "F-E-G" in the sawdust, and people can pose for pictures with you....
B-Dub..... I'll see if there's another B&B in the immediate area.... They sort of appear and disappear at random.... There's always the "No-tell Motel" down the road, but....
And Keith...... You do too have local friends...... You just haven't met us yet!

Branford fireworks (generally an EXCELLENT display) are saturday 6/30. Best place to watch is on a boat in the harbor.
New Haven actually fires on the 4th.
New London goes off the following saturday 7/7, again best viewed afloat.

Well, I must be mad (that's one of the entrance criteria, right?), but I booked it. Extended my Ottawa trip by a few days and rented a car so I can drive down to Haddam (7 hours), spend a couple of days at my uncle's place, boot over to the EBS (and yes, I'll probably sleep there if I can be put in with the other earthshakers), drive back to Ottawa the next day, and fly home the day after that.

I'm really looking forward to this.

Dang, I was hoping for camo.

I'm going to need some expert advice on tolls, as apparently there are some highways I have to drive on that haven't been paid off yet...? Something about I-90 and the Mass Pike... if I can provide directions, can anyone tell me where and how much I have to pay?

The tolls are not that expensive. Maybe you could get Phillip to lend you some shinplasters

There are no tolls on the Mass Pike between exits 1 and 6, West Stockbridge to I-291 in West Springfield, which would be along your most likely fastest and mostly superhighway route from Ottawa to Haddam.

    http://www.massdot.net/user-cgi/tollcalc.cgi

From Utica, NY to the NY/MA state line on I-90, about $6.50, but I would think about coming down on NY 3/30/28 thorough the ADK park, only a few minutes longer, and a just a bit cheaper for the tolls but a nicer ride IMHO.

Mr. Left, this is sounding like it will be quite a good event, I think that Miss Pam and I will try to make it, too.

Thanks for the links and advice - I knew there had to be something like that but when I tried to find toll info on the tourism sites I drew a blank, and I hadn't got round to googling yet.

Waddya mean "spirit" - will you be at the show, Vince? There should be plenty of people headed to Guilford and then back to Mystic.

I got a lil postcard in the mail yesterday telling me I had to go to the post office to pick up a package that couldn't be left unattended in the driveway........ And that the addressee was from St. Augustine, Fl.......
So I figured I'd let the post office people feed whatever it is that's in the box that can't be left unattended in the driveway, over the weekend......

I don't understand why the USPS will delivery explosives, but not little cardboard arrows on sticks..... The damned box was the size of a shirt box.... The mailman delivers boxes bigger than that almost every week.... Day before yesterday he delivered a box twice that size with a pound of black powder in it..... But this one clearly said "Undeliverable to address. Can not be left in driveway unattended"......
    No wonder they're broke...

They are visible, Boss...... I mean..... Not if you're talking on a cell phone while driving, or looking at the GPS screen, or trying to find the country station on the radio, or eating a McDLT and extra large fries with a 20oz. Mountain Dew....... But if yer paying attention, and have been told to look for little cardboard arrows on wooden sticks, they'll be very visible!

You'd think for .27 per hour, those Chinese kids would put out a better product...

    Hi Flying Orca,
The quickest and most direct route from Ottawa to Conn. is thru the ADKs. Ottawa to Cornwall ONT. Take the Bridge to Massena NY USA. Rt. 37 east to Malone NY, Rt.30 south to Paul Smiths.Rt86 east to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid. Rt 73 east/south to Rt 87 Northway interstate, south to Albany NY, interstate Rt.90 east to Springfield MA, interstate Rt.91 south to Rt. 9 southeast to Haddam Conn. @7 hrs.,no tolls.
If you do go this way thru Saranac Lake give me a shout and stop by the shop. An antique boat shop with antique tools and antique dust! I'd like to meet ya.
Any way you choose to go, throw out the GPS and google and invest in a Rand Mcnally Road Atlas!
