    Default Wooden boat interior protection

Hard to find answer on forum, I have to ask question here.

I'm building a 19 ft sailing cruiser, same as Donald Branscom, member here in WBF

I'm asking pro's advice, thank you.

In a new boat, what would be the best solution to protect interior wood (as long as possible)?

I know how to for outside....I'm asking only for inside boat.

1- apply epoxy all over, frames, bilge, floor, walls etc, etc.

2- Spray 2 parts epoxy varnish?

    3- Is CETOL appropriate?

    4- What else.

Depends on the construction. Ply,trad, wet stored, dry sailed.
I do not even know epoxy varnish existed!
    CETOL is better for outside
I use one part cheap poly varnish on the inside of most of my boats.
Epoxy resin , "painted" on, takes a lot of sanding, if you were to be putting it on everything. It drips and runs.
    There is no short answer.

That's what my supplier (no famous name brand, but very good product) says: Epoxy varnish is mixed from 2 equal parts (A and B), giving high gloss and UV protection.

Frame made from oak sides plywood

Epoxy resin will drip and run IF too much of it is ''painted'' to walls. 2 or even 3 thin layers (sand between) is better.

Oh!.... and don't forget to wash hardened epoxy with water, to remove a ''greasy or oily'' surface.

I'm willing to bet it is linear polyurethane " varnish", not epoxy.

The interior does not have a UV problem so I have always used something easy to renew. Traditional oil based paints and varnish have worked well for me. Maybe 15 years between coats of paint? I renew the oil every couple of years, but that is just a wipe it on and let it dry process. I use Deks Olje...

    +1
What Canoeyawl said. The demands of interiors are not hard to meet. Conventional finish systems are perfectly OK.

MMM good to know about interior varnish.

But my question was: ''What to do for a brand new boat, the one we built and what to do on new wood.''

Is ''painting'' with epoxy resin good as primer. In that case I will do this, by addind white pigments to color resin.

Anyone did that to his boat?
