fwiw- if i were in your shoes i'd make do with the service that's there..i realize that it's not the "IDEAL", but know from experenice that it can work for a one man shop. experence? i am a licensed electrican been so for a long time. solar is laughable...it might leave you with that nice warm feeling, but youre savings account will be crying for a long time.not an expert but i doubt if you'll be able to take it with you when you move either.

So far, my rough numbers show that solar only works with major grants or significant tax breaks. Payback is just too long -- 10-12 years. This is why I'd want to be able to take it with me. Solar isn't quite ready for prime time, at least, not for my application.

Trying to keep it simple. I think I can re-purpose the two (unused) 220V circuits in my house to power a subpanel for the shop. 60 amps should be plenty (again, rough estimates -- working on getting better data).
