Posted this in B&R but thought I'd put it down here as well, just in case.
One question left in my simple canoe build is how to handle the tie-down points in a skinny little stem. One idea I have is to simply drill a hole fore-n-aft through the stem and put a rope loop through it. A carrying handle, a place to attach the cartopping tie-downs, etc. For today I can slide a bit of rope through it and make a bowline.
But a grommet through the hole would be so much more elegant. I've made grommets before and they came out OK. But I never made them through a hole. So all you rope magicians, is there a secret? Or just try it until your happy with how it comes out?
Cheers,
Bobby
