    Default Yard work...

Here is my 1957 Nichols Buccaneer. A very fine, well built mahogany, teak and ply hard chine boat built here in Alameda. Thunderbirds aspire to run in her wake.

Weather and timing was perfect. Hauled the boat out finally after two years. In six days - I replaced a few stringers. Scarfed in some new plywood. Painted the hull and bottom.

I painted my much loved father-in-laws initials on the keel - He now goes sailing in spirit with us all. Bring on the Masters Mariners Regatta!

Thanks. I miss his enthusasism and support.

as for the speed, this old girl has been known to plane at over 10 knots gps with the tide and makes a decent rooster tail too on a down wind run in breezes over 18. a while back, a thunderbird and I raced down the slot in San Franicisco bay front. I was about 4 seconds faster in a mile. But thank god my rating is from 1962 otherwise I would be lastin the assorted oldster fleet.
