In a similar vein, there is (or was - haven't been there in a few years) a fellow at the Tsawout First Nation (on Saanichtion Bay) who restores dugout canoes. I don't know the name of the buisness, but it was run from a house on Beach Road, and the yard was full of dugouts. Might be of interest to you, whenever you're in the area.

The use of the word restore suggests that these craft are of some vintage, possibly connected with a point in history. How old are they? I am sure not 350 years. Are they re-creations?

Michael, in the video one of the young men mentions he is working on a boat that belonged to his father. Realize life expectancy for these folks is short, the canoe may be his only connection to his father. The world is moving so fast now that important culture can be lost in one generation. I would guess these boats are 30-40 years old at most?
