    Why? What's the attraction?

Just say what you want in less than 148 characters here.

    Same thing, right?

No, nor facebook. It's bad enough that if someone types in my phone no on Google my address and a pic of our country dirt road appears. Stupidly enough if you phone enquiries they still tell you that information is private.

Twiiter can be a useful thing. I get a lot of news that way without having to wait for television programming or newspapers. I can get news pretty much as it happens.

I was just wondering if anyone here was using Twitter for send out boating news.

I've used it during the Everglades Challenge the last couple of years to send updates and photos in real time. I'll be doing it again during the Florida 120 in a couple of weeks. It's been fun to do, but because I'm sailing singlehanded sometimes it's hard to get out very much, especially if the conditions are trying.

Mik Storer is pretty active on twitter. Dylan Winter also sends out occasional updates as well.

Sorta like you can get it on MSN.com, facebook, youtube, vimeo, e-mail, Skype or any of the million or so other online social networking sites, right? Only on the other sites, you can say what you mean in as many characters as it takes to make sure you are perfectly clear with your content and meaning.

For instance, I don't think I could post this on twitter and convey my total lack of interest in using that media to you without exceeding their mandated character limit or your attention span.

Please don't infer from this that I'm trying to discourage you from utilizing all the current online tools you need to comunicate with others, nor am I disparaging you for wanting to follow where you are lead by those who are most concerned with clear and concise comunication on the internet with absolutely no interest in filthy lucre. I just wonder how long today's Twitter will take to become tomorrow's Myspace, and where will we go from there to communicate?

    Just sayin'.

    ETA, nope, I don't Tweet.

I tried to follow you Tim, and it says its forbidden.

Willin' - I use it a lot like a news ticker. The people I follow for news generally give a headline and a link to the whole story. You can fit a lot of information into 140 characters, and it saves having to read too much fluff and BS unless I want the whole story. But, it doesn't have to be for everyone, and thats ok .
