    Default Weekend on the boat

It got launched on Tuesday... and I'm going down in an hour or so, for the weekend.

Since I am a 'seasonal' sailor, I really miss the 'escape' that it provides, while it's either hauled out, or buttoned up, for the winter. It's my 'man cave' of sorts, usually one or two nights a week when SWMBO is off doing either her Rotary thing, or at a board meeting.... just the ability to get away from the regular routine is a good thing. The wife will come down tomorrow AM, give me crap about the galley not having been cleaned yet....

Of course, there's much seasonal commissioning to do... flushing out the water tanks, cleaning the deck and the teak topsides, polish and wax, and so on. There's some rigging maintenence that needs getting done.... gotta clean the foot and leach of the headsail.... need to replace the engine start battery.... repair the stern barbeque.... and on and on.....

....but they are labors of love.

We probably won't leave the dock until late this month or early next month (we're not fans of being cold), but when used as movable waterfront real estate, I'd rather be floating, dockside, than sinking into the couch in the den!

Here is one area I have to give you props....at least you have a boat, albeit plastic. Your leftist partner in trolling Illjay, on the other hand, has no real reason to be here.

Don't knock it. Maintaining and repairing a wooden boat may be a labor of love.... but actually being able to SAIL with one's limited free time is even better. That 'plastic' boat you speak of is reliable as hell, fast, extremely comfortable, sails well, and requires precious little maintenence, compared to lumber... and when she gets launched in the spring, I don't have to stand by with spare bilge pumps for a week until the boards swell

I was wondering how to counter your comments on California in another thread............and bingo.

    In case you're intrested..
.SHORT TERM (TODAY-SUN)...A VERY NICE DAY ON TAP, THOUGH WINDY IN A
FEW SPOTS, WITH TEMPS OVERALL 5-10 DEGREES WARMER THAN THURSDAY. THE
WINDIEST AREAS TODAY WILL BE THE USUAL WEST/NORTHWEST FAVORED
LOCATIONS SUCH AS THE CENTRAL COAST, SRN SBA COUNTY, THE I5
CORRIDOR, AND THE ANTELOPE VALLEY. THE ONLY ONE OF THOSE AREAS THAT
SHOULD SEE ADVISORY LEVEL WINDS IS SRN SBA COUNTY, MAINLY LATER THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY MORNING, AS WINDS SURGE THROUGH THE
PASSES AND CANYONS OF THE SANTA YNEZ RANGE.

WE HAVE A FEW LEFT OVER STRATOCU CLOUDS ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN LA
COUNTY BUT THESE SHOULD BE CLEARING BY THIS AFTERNOON. SKIES SHOULD
REMAIN CLEAR THROUGH SATURDAY BEFORE ONSHORE FLOW RETURNS SUNDAY AND
COMBINES WITH A WEAK EDDY CIRCULATION TO GENERATE SOME MARINE LYR
    CLOUDS FOR COASTAL AREAS.
    Temps 70-80

Nice to hear, Norman. We've still got ice, probably launch in late June.
Get to go fishing for Dolly Varden tomorrow, yippeee!

Bob, you've been here since 2000 and have never seen the pictures of LJ's kayaks he built?

Good for you. I spent last Friday night on my boat, first time since I took possession in February. It was great, but I did find that the fridge compressor is loud.

Honestly, no. Maybe back years ago when he was whining about how he has to hide his identity here he may have said something. When was the last time he mentioned boats at all? 2004?

Well, I'm sure it's been more recent than that, I remember seeing them. That's probably what brought him here in the first place, unlike some of the recent trolls who have signed on that don't even know what a boat is. Anybody that can take a pile of sticks and turn them into a boat is okay by me, left, right or center.
