Sorry it took so long to respond to that. When I tried to visualize it, my imagination cast a young Sophia Loren in the role.

Half the 'sickies' taken by women are for family reasons, sick children, school meetings, elderly parents etc. many of those for men are 'morning after' reasons, in other words substance abuse.
I managed an ad agency and we sorted this out quite early in my tenure, and allowed for it. And yes there were some that abused the system, but they soon were found out.

Trying to start a discussion on why women might not get "equal pay for equal work?"

The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind.

There's no "might not" about it.
    Especially older women.
I work at least 30% harder and am 30% more productive than the men of similar age where I work.
and prolly the same holds true for the kids I work with.
I also do more unpaid work than most men of my age.

So dont start or we'll put up stats

Hey... shouldn't you be in bed by now? Don't you have a ferry to catch in the morning?

I work on the island now. I stay up late because that's when there are the fewest distractions from cataloging books. But you're right, it's time to toddle off and read a bit before the sandman comes. I've already sent the updates to all sales channels.

Staying on the island. Skipping the ferry hustle. Sounds good! I'm off to bed as well. Reading 'The Thirteenth Tale' by Diane Setterfield. A little weird... but quite good.

Somehow the translation from Ozzie to Murcan is not working...
"Chucking a sickie" sounds like something that might happen after a long evening of trying one of everything in the liquor cabinet.....

I believe it's derived from a cricket term.
Chucking = illegal delivery (not to be confused with a "wrong un" which is legal but cunning)
Sickie = contraction of sick day

    Clear now?

Technicolor yawn is used here, as well. I'll be selling Buicks isn't used there. It's onomatopoetic.

It just means taking a sick day when you are not sick. aka stealing from the Man. Not legitimate, however you spell ligitimate.

I thought it was connected to a "stick up book".

Asked my wife's Aussie friend and she told me what a "stick up book" is..

One time she told us to come over for Tea and Biscuits..

Asked my wife Why does she want to make Biscuits in the afternoon?.

    Turns out she meant Cookies.

Or using the china telephone. BTW around here those late night expressions are known as pavement pizzas or felafel installations...

I think technicolour yawn was one of those made up "aussie" expressions invented by barry humphries in the cultural cringeworthy Bazza McKenzie film

Many of these expressions have found their way into international idiom. (Gawd 'elp us)

I think "Technicolor yawn" originated from "The Exocist", where Linda Blair projectile vomits pea soup on the priest.... Who was the priest..... Max Von Sydow?...... (Yes!)

"I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair..."

It was not until #9 that I got the meaning of the thread title. It almost sounded like puking or something.

I'll see your washing machine and raise you the sofa I just bought. ;-)
