    Default The Spirit of Buffalo

So my wife surprises me to day with the idea of a ride on the 73' schooner - The Spirit of Buffalo.

I don't have all the details just yet. Has anyone gone out on her and would you mind sharing your experience? I'm curious what to expect and what others thought. I'm also kinda excited to go!
    Thanks
    Tim

Well, we've got a date for our trip on the boat. I found this museum/resoration shop in the area also. http://www.buffalomaritimecenter.org...ng_center.html
Those will be my stops - my wife has her heart set on the zoo and botanical gardens. Then we'll just see what else we find around to check out. I'll post a report on the boating goodies after we get back.

In spite of its recent demise economically, I like Buffalo. The city of my teen forays into alcohol and Burlesque Shows. It does have great architecture and pockets of modern cuisine. Its yacht clubs put on outstanding regattas. As the end of the Erie Canal and beginning of Upper Lakes shipping it has a great marine history.
    Enjoy your visit.

Our cruise on the spirit of Buffalo was windless so we motored with the sails up. Disappointing from a sailing standpoint, but we met a nice group and enjoyed our time together so much we hardly noticed the lack of wind. A young wife and husband captains running the boat. I say wife and husband because she was at the helm. Nice people.
The Buffalo Naval museum is moored right next door. Two battleships and a submarine are the bulk of the museum itself. Walk through tours. You get to see everything. only $10 to get in. You simply must see this if you visit Buffallo. Incredible being able to stand on the bridge of a 610' battleship. Or crawling through a hatch into the engine room of a 300' sub. Great stuff.
There was some wooden boat goodies there as well

A PT boat is much bigger than I had thought - 80 foot. Pretty impressive standing next to this thing. Park admission gets you inside that fence so you can touch the PT - standing in front of that bow you feel pretty small. Twin 1600 HP motors IIRC - I wouldn't want to be on the enemy's side.
I've got more pics if anyone wants to see anything.

Thanks, Timo. Sorry to hear about the wind, however it seems you had a good day.
