    Default Craiglist Scams

I have some of my fleet on Cl.
One gets some weird replies, from scammars.
usually they mention "the item" , not the boat or the car or the what not.
then it is " I am buying it for my father, I am offshore, my agent will pick it up, I will give you $100 extra, send me your paypal info".
This happens regularly. I usually reply that I just sold it to a gentleman who is stationed on the hubbel telescope, or that I will pay THEM if they get it off my grammas lawn , and i will introduce them to my big breasted sister.
I have empathy for any REAL grammas who might be falling for this junk.

This rings of a similar scam which was a news item here a few months ago.

I had one back a few months , the guy wanted to by my Scarab for 29k , and have it shipped to Uganda . I talked with the guys kid on the phone , and both on the computer . I looked at my son and said how stupid do these guys think we are . The guy wanted me to stop my ebay auction and I refused to . Finely after the action ran out , the guy calls and says he's flying in tomorrow to buy the boat can we meet , I said sure , and made sure I had some backup if needed . Next day this little Portages guy shows up with a back pack , and takes a quick check of the boat , and says lets go talk in your office . We sat down and he opened his back pack and emptied out $29,000.00 cash on my desk , and asked for a receipt , and said he would pick up the boat tomorrow . This deal had all the signs of a scam , but ended clean , no funny money , I might have laundered some money , but clean so far no scam .

Oh, Bruce, you don't know how far this stuff can be taken. For example, the story behind this:

    Indeed.

I am listing my cutter on CL now too, and for every semi-legit reply receive there are about 4 or 5 scams only asking about "the idem" or "your posting". I like to see the word "boat" in the reply at a minimum before I think about believing you are human.

Ah well. Them internets are a double-edged sword.
