Default Arriving at Gil Hodges' Funeral 1972

Interesting footage from Gil Hodges' funeral; Brooklyn, April, 1972
How many faces do you recognize.....Seaver, Berra, Koosman, Reese, Jackie Robinson, Newcombe, Branca, Bowie Kuhn, Mayor Lindsay, Mel Allen, Howard Cosell... etc

The short answer is "No". Cosell I would have gotten out of a line up, but I doubt I could have named anyone else if you hadn't given prompts....

    Bud Harrelson was there.

Saw GH play at the Polo grounds..

When he stepped up to the plate the crowd roared

Dad said there is a Dodger and a Marine.

    Very sad when he died

Cosell is pretty hard to miss, but I thought Berra, J Robinson, and Mayor Lindsay were too.

Yeah.... I guess Yogi was pretty obvious, but Lindsay...... enh. If you hadn't mentioned him, I would have thought he was familiar, but I doubt I could have named him..... I mean..... This was 19 freakin' 72! He was a mayor of a far away city that I despised, and as far as I knew (Thanks to my grandfather, who thought that all Democrats were Satan worshiping sodomists) he sported horns and had children's blood dripping from his gaping maw.....

I missed the Polo Grounds by a few years. It was last used for baseball and football in 1963, and I believe it was demolished shortly after.

    NY Giants last game 1957

Went there in 62 to see the Mets, Sat in the upper left field bleachers 4 poles in from the end.

The pole was in the way and of course everyone was a grown up.

The thing I remember most is men Cheering and yelling at the top of their lungs and yelling bad words along with the Bronx cheer.

Must have been what it was like at Ebbets field in the 50s.

Was in a NY thing, i dunno but i had the time of my life , Never saw anything so filled with emotion in a sports game since then. .

. Duke Snider had the biggest cheer .

One had to be a true blue Mets fan to understand just how big the 69 Mets were after watching them lose from 62.
