We're (Snoose) headed for that neighborhood this weekend, but probably will end up in Gig Harbor. The last time we were in Quartermaster, the inner harbor seemed clogged with abandoned and derelict boats leaving very little room to anchor. Has that changed? What part of the harbor is that picture looking at?

Damn! I missed her. This is the tail end of Lady Washington. I've waited all summer for her to come by and I missed her.

DOUBLE DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
While posting the Lady Washington above, the Hawaiian Chieftain came by and I missed her too! And I knew they usually travel together so I was waiting, but I looked away for a minute and there she was. Well, maybe I'll get them when they come back out.

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
Noble effort.
YOU MISSED BOTH OF THEM!!!!!
At least you tried.
HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO MISS #2??????
I'll give you a mulligan on both of these cuz they both spend a good deal of time down here. It's fun to watch them shooting their big guns, both at each other, and at our Johnsons (Irving and Exy).

So. Where we're you when I caught Adventuress? You only show up when I miss?![]()
I did note the passing by your window of Adventuress. I just went back in time to find my thank you post and throw it in your face.
I kneel before you now with red face and tail tucked between my legs. I must have gotten "Scotted". Or maybe I got distracted and forgot to click on that little "Post Reply" button.
As a peace offering, I retract all of the bad mouthing I gave you in the offending post. I'd delete the post, but it contains what might be the coolest pic on this thread.

All in good fun of course. Yes, that's a magnificent picture. Not often these days one can see spreads of canvas like that all full and pulling.

It does indeed. I seem to remember that there's a story behind that, but don't know it.
This black hulled 3 masted topsail schooner sailed past the cottage window. Anybody know who she may be? Sorry for the pic quality, I took it with my iPhone on full zoom through binoculars.

I can't seen to figure out posting pics from my macbook pro. Hopefully this works.

I think I got it now...
She's a three masted vessel as you can see. She crosses a yard just below the topmast doublings and just above the doublings. Her deck house is between the main and the mizzen and her main and mizzen are the same height. There's brightwork on deck. Can't make out much more. I think she's got a clipper bow but can't make out if she's got a counter stern, transom or what.

I hate to say it, but a first glance, for a fleeting moment, she looked like Raw Faith!

The graininess of that pic is cool, makes it look like a background in a Seurat pointillist painting.

I try to come up with a somewhat appropriate file name for these images. This one just kind of stumped me for some reason so it is titled, "dontknow.jpg".

I believe Circe is in the 52-54 foot range, not 62 feet. She is heading for Victoria, an event she attends every year. I will be leaving for there myself tomorrow morning from Port Townsend and look forward to visiting her.
Guillemot is also likely heading to PT.
Hi Lew -
Check on that if you would. I remember (when I saw her a few years ago @ the WBF @ PT) thinking that she was 10' longer than Neoga - which would make her 62. I'd also love to know if Ben Seaborn was her original designer.
Hey Garret, I'll come back with all the details, but it will be a week or so. I'm working from memory myself, and I have to admit she looks a lot bigger than fifty four feet in Ron's picture. I visit with them every year at the show, so I'll remember to find out; actually all I need do is look on the rigging card![]()
By the way, they are a party boat (to the extent old guys can party) and usually fill every bunk for the show. Kept in good using condition, not Bristol but a working sail boat, she competes in the (frequently) light air (mostly for fun, but taken seriously as always) races held in conjunction with the gathering up there. Of course, she is a powerful boat and nice to see under sail. What is really weird is how the wind is always blowing in the Straight except hen they are racing, once a year on Sunday!
Thanks! Enjoy the show & say hi to folks for me. If anyone asks (& I was surprised at how many people asked at the WBF), Neoga has over 60 rebuilt frames, new keelbolts, new horn timber & by spring will have all new planks below the waterline & a new rudder.
Most references seem to have Circe at 62', altho that could be a repeated error. I also found an article that says Ben Seaborn designed Circe when he was 18 yrs old and a senior in high school. That could point to him having some assistance in the design work.
The High School piece rings a bell. WB (in their article about Ben Seaborn) had Neoga as a 62' yawl (she's a 52' sloop) - so incorrect #'s abound!
Ah - a link from nephew Christina Seaborn where he says 62: http://www.sailingworld.com/photos/u...borns-62-circe
Sailboat guys always give measurements in extremis though! I always shoot first, then do the research. Here's a link to a reference of her at sixty four feet. (Scroll to bottom) I am wondering if that is OA or LOD though. Sailboat guys always seem to use LOD when discussing the boat in motion, OD when paying for moorageIn that respect I suppose they are like powerboat guys.
Yeah, I guess at first glance she does have a Raw Faith air to her but through binos much clearer than that pic she's much better than RF. She looks alot like Oosterscheld but for the mizzen being the shorter than the main in Oosterscheld and the white in the hull. This hull is completely black (or dark coloured anyway).
Sorry for jacking your thread but I figured since I saw it out my window I'd pose the question here.

Probably going to be a great couple of days of traffic as boats head out for the various Labor Day festivals, including of course Victoria. I hope "Galene" here is headed South to Olympia for the Tugboat Festival (actually called Harbor Days). That's where we'll be going on Snoose.

That's how a tugboat should look!
It's a little hard to say, but I think the dark hulled vessel was in Salem a few years ago. If I'm correct she has a religious affiliation, but I can't remember what is was. She may have been discussed on the forum at the time, but I can't remember the thread.
Yachting, the only sport where you get to be a mechanic, electrician, plumber and carpenter
In Knee-Deep in Shavings, it says Ben designed the boat while still in high school, influenced by the lines of Nina. My interpretation is that since he probably didn't have any more than a magazine article about Nina, it was, as Blanchard said "somewhat along the lines of Nina," not a reworking of the design.
