Thanks for posting these pics.I am along way from any body of water that has anything better than a plastic ski boat, aluminum jane boat, or jerk ski.I have only been to an area a few times where I could watch what the tide rolls in.I love it.One day I will be back on the coast.
I do have one question tho.Where do you guys learn the history of these boats?I know some of it is from just being on the water or marinas.

If you know the name, many times a google search will turn up a page for a specific boat. I'm ashamed I didn't recognize Prothero's Alcyone. http://nwwindjammers.com/alcyone.htm

Here's Chelsea again. I know we've already seen her going the other way, but it's just such a low graceful profile, I couldn't help posting her again.
I'm guessing when she gets her hold weighted a little more and her bow up, she might even be more graceful.

The camera is okay, just short on pixels. I have to shoot wide to catch the boat, then crop way down. That doesn't leave a lot of detail.
Excellent thread. How lucky you are to have such a great view. I can see you appreciate it. Keep 'em coming!

Anyone recognize the bridgedeck cruiser? Compadre maybe?

This little guy looks familiar but I can't recall the name.

That is Compadre, well called. She is a 43' 1929 Stephens. Twin Crown power. Looks pretty puny in front of Arica, eh?
Normal weather for Opening Day, the real season ought to get going by, say August!
In #218 the barge alongside the tug in the foreground has a specialize push tug riding on its deck. The push tug's bow is pointed right and the pilot house is behind and visually above the working tug's.

In the absents of SchoonerRat, may I thank you for and on behalf of all of us Schoonerphiles. You have not only presented us with a Schooner, but you have shown the pentacle of Schooners. That is a schooner with one or more yardarms! (in my opinion anyway). Thank you, thank you, and may I have another. Capt. Z.

OOoooooooooeeeeeeeee!!!!
I was almost ready to give up on ya --- and then --- and now!!! You can't get much more classic schooner than this!
To be honest, I've always tended to shy away from gaffers, but with the inclusion of this beauty, you now have 2 Stars. One more, and this thread will get the "Official Schooner Rat Seal of Approval.
PS: OK, I wasn't really gonna give up. You, my friend, have an enviable workspace! How do you manage to get any thing done?

Ron,
No pertinent comments - just wanted to assure you there are probably lots of us lurking and enjoying the heck out of this thread. Thanks!

Sunday will be a big day for yachty type passages out of the locks, but I'll guess Ron will have taken the day off.
Oh no you don't!
You've set the bar now. Moving forward - I think we all expect improvement, refinement, and more complete coverage. A better camera is a good idea. And before you know it... you'll have it down to such an art that you'll develop your own line of calendars and greeting cards: "Ships of the Ship Canal" <G>

Wait, wait a minute...If you get busy and can't devote the time to the picture taking, I'll be more than happy to fly out there and sit by the window and click away. Other than the occasional "oooohhhhh, and ahhhhhhh" I'll be more or less quiet, and I'll even be your personal gofer, depending on traffic in the canal. I don't eat much and I'm a snappy dresser.
And there you have my resume!

Small and far away, so again not enough pixels left after cropping so much. Pretty boat, just wish it were a better photo.

A minus 3.37' tide. Notice the edge of the dredged channel on the other side. The channel is clearly marked, but it's amazing how many boaters will turn left too soon. Some get away with it, some do not.
