WAIT!
Aside from the fact that there's a car mounted (Somehow???Do I want to know
) on a [boat{?}-type object] which is powered by (2) 200HP outboards, exactly HOW is this a "carboat"?
400 HP of outboard? Are you SURE this doesn't belong to Bush41 or one of his wannabee buddies?
For $7500 I think we should at least get a Fiat Spyder with no engine!
"Certified"? How about "Certifiable"?
"These damned cockaroaches are messing up my vibrissae!"

Sailboy, I'd like to know where you found this picture? I've been looking for car/boat combinations all over the web, and found next to nothing.
I would like to know if the car is capable of towing the boat on land? Are trailer wheels built in as well as a tongue, or is a separate trailer required?
I found a catamaran built from two Republic Seabee flying boat fuselages, that support a 1968 Dodge Polara that some fellow created and got published in Mechanics Illustrated. He connects the cars driveshaft to the boats prop shaft through a hatch he cut under the back seat.
I became interested in researching this combo rig after coming up with an equally silly idea over a few beers with some buds in the boatyard. We were talking about an acquaintance who keeps a Yaris in the cockpit of his sixty foot sportfish in Marina Hemingway. I mentioned some cruising friends with a big schooner without any wheelhouse or dodger of any kind who could have used a smart car on deck to get out of the weather, listen to tunes, run the A/c and steer with the autopilot remote. Quite a few beers in retrospect.
Then I got the idea for a vessel built specifically to float a car. I guess seeing so many amphicars back in '67 cruising up the river in my backyard when I was a kid planted the seed.
What if one took an electric car and built a carbon fibre, folding, surface piercing catamaran, with reverse stems and slipper sterns that the car was able to tow, launch, drive onto, and connect its battery to a pair of Torqeedo outboards, drive the boat to another ramp somewhere, reverse the process and drive away?
I think the only problem would be making it light enough to tow, oh yeah, and getting insurance.
Mike
PS Okay, sorry I missed the craigslist footnote. Comes with a separate trailer. Not a bad deal if the car is detachable and driveable, but the ad doesn't specify.

Whoa. How many beers exactly?
Actually the car pilot house sort of makes sense in a weird way, though I can't imagine it actually being done.
I found the pic by searching for "pontiac sunbird convertible carboat" on google. There's an article or two on it.

So let me get this straight. You're sitting in front of the computer and you say to yourself, 'I wonder if there are any pontiac sunbird speed boats out there? I think I'll check'. And lo and behold, there it was.
You think my idea is crazy? What about the guy with the Sea bee catamaran? He actually built it.
Mike
, no I was actually browsing the list of craig and came upon it, and then googled it.
Hold on, I'm just about to start another carboat thread.
I actually prefer the Chevy van model.

These boats are built for fun to compete in the lobster boat races in Maine during the summer.
I always liked this one:
