Default Christians have no right to wear cross at work, says Government

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/reli...overnment.html

Christians do not have a right to wear a cross or crucifix openly at work, the Government is to argue in a landmark court case

In a highly significant move, ministers will fight a case at the European Court of Human Rights in which two British women will seek to establish their right to display the cross.

It is the first time that the Government has been forced to state whether it backs the right of Christians to wear the symbol at work.

    Thoughts?

    Disagree.

What he have here is a tempest in a chalice. It'll get sorted out one way or the other, with very little real impact on anyone. Whether I am allowed to wear my Cluthu-exalting jewelry at work or not makes very little difference in the larger scheme of thing. Personally, I'd say let anyone wear anything - until it bumps into other considerations (health and safety concerns, for example).

With Bernanke - we are talking about decisions being taken that will affect our current financial situation dramatically, but will affect the whole country and the world for many years. There's even the portential for - as our favorite alarmist would say - Worldwide Financial Collapse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am surprised that this is still rumbling on. In one case it is about the dress code for front of house employees required as a part of their job to wear a uniform, the other looks like an issue of hygiene on a hospital ward. We do allow the wearing of religious symbols where it is a requirement of the faith, for example the Sikh turban, but there is no such requirement mandated in the bible.
It really is quite difficult to build an ugly wooden boat.

When it comes to Bernake all of Davids thoughts are based on the irrational thought that system will continue. No fiat system has so far. I guess it goes with the rest of the Pie in the sky people are fed to believe. Change is inevitable as death. Resiting it makes one a fool in the long run.

Squid - did you forget you're talking to the fella married to a Christian minister? I don't bash Christians... unless they really, really deserve it... and I try not to bash other faiths either.

In general , not you specifically. You don't see the bashing here as unequal? You think it's "Fair and balanced", to use a Fox news lead in LOL ?

Ahhhh... I was afraid, since you were quoting me, and speaking directly to me, that you meant me. Glad to hear not. There's very little 'fair & balanced' in the Bile. I generally don't keep tally on Christian-bashing threads. I pay very little attention to them in general.

In the old printing industry rings and dangly things were definitely a health hazard and were removed at work, as are doctor's ties and even exposed body piercings in some jobs.

Resistance IS futile, boyo. You'd think that would have gotten through to you by now.

The world is changing faster than the regressives can comprehend, so they lash out with their "puny little fists", as Gore Vidal would say.

I'm on dial-up. There ain't enough hours in the day for me to down load all the web addresses that folks here throw around.

Invest in high speed or stop whining about your extreme level of cheap. Its been years now you trot out that excuse. It's not expensive because I can easily afford it. See if you can stop using that excuse as a crutch to hide your true level of understanding.

Anyway, Christians have a right to wear what they want but if they are uniformed in some way, they cannot wave religious symbols in clients' faces. They can keep their cross necklaces inside their shirts.

Unless there's a health and safety issue. For example, on a baby food production line workers may not wear any item of personal jewelry as it can introduce contaminates.

This is a phony issue being pushed by some "Christians" who want to ignore Jesus' own words about public display of sanctimony.
