Hi all,

I am planning to get my first motorcycle this summer and am looking for some input. I have listed a few points that I thinkk are relevant below. feel free to ask any other questions.

I am starting a new job and will be commuting about 3-5 miles each way on nice small paved roads. It would also be nice to comfortably explore unpaved (gravel) state maintained roads and also make an occasional trip home (2 hrs each way, mostly two lane highway).

I will still have my van for when I need to haul anything or when conditions are not great.

Growing up I spent a fair amount of time on friends' dirt bikes (50, 80, 90, and 125 cc) and my dad had a Honda Shadow 500 for a couple of years that I rode around close to the farm.

I am 6'1, and 175 lbs. Once I am very comfortable I will sometimes have a passenger.

In terms of style I am drawn to the 70's Honda CBs, the earlier bmws, and the only modern bike I have seem that I really like the looks of is the Suzuki TU250 I don't want a collectors item though, it might sometimes get parked in the rain (not if I can help it) etc..

Very dangerous - for every auto created head injury there at 5 motorcycle injuries. Get the name of a good head injury rehab program when you buy you bike.

It's much safer to just leave your boat tied to the dock, too.

motorcycles do up the "anti"!! the elevated risk of injuries, and the shear cost of maintaining a motorcycle, makes it a money burner instead of a savings! just for the record, gas use is really bad with bikes- here's something that weighs less than 1/2 the weight of a small car, but gets the same gas milage!! i own a touring bike. i use it. but nothing like the car. but who can plumb the depths of the hart? btw..i before this one i had a klr650 and found it WAY too heavy to be of any practical use on trails(also c of g was too high too). did take it cross country once- never to be repeated

Sounds great to me, wondering, do you have inside info here? I see where on his site he lists the box as sold - nice box, Timm - good show, ;-) - but knowledge of the bike - which looks sweet! - is from where?

Summer's here, enjoy that bike, Timm! & get a light colored helmet.. the sun is hot! - my gloves are beige, too ;-)
