    Default sailing skiff

I am new here on this forum and i have built power boats before and i would like to try my hand at a sailing skiff, preferably one with some speed. I am looking for something around 12 feet that is easily cartopable since i will most likely have another boat on the hitch when i take them to the beach. I really like the lines of the truc 12 but a have not been able to find a boat with a similar shape. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks.

Thanks for the ideas. I have looked at the paper jet 14 and i have a motor boat just like the goat island skiff. I really liked the pt11 but unfortionately i could only find it as a kit. I am trying to find a rounder hull preferably open back but i don't think one exists. I am thinking about the Glen L 11 feather http://www.glen-l.com/designs/sailboat/feather.html but i am not sure about the performance. and the boat has to hold its own in the ocean with fairly large rollers and make it out of a three foot surf either by pushing or sailing

    Stornoway 12 from Selway Fisher

Or with two headsails if you like that sort of thing:

But maybe not fast enough for you.

Bit big but at 140lbs (nominal...YMMV) it should be toppable with assistance or a good system.

I think Gartside's Riff is one of the most elegant little 12 footers out there. I am studying up on carving a half hull based on Culler's Sheep Boat (10.5'), and the more I watch the greater difficulty I see in producing an elegant boat from such stubby proportions...I can't see a bad line on Riff.

I suppose the 12' skiff would be the ultimate:

But a National 12 is pretty good: http://www.national12.org/index.shtml

Of course, neither is as quick as a Moth: http://perverted-moth.blogspot.com/2...ign-files.html

    http://www.moth-sailing.org/imca/faces/HomeBuild.jsp

    But they can be challenging.

    And a little odd.

If a classic Moth is more your speed, there are quite a few designs:
