It looks like things haven't changed much. I'm still wondering about this crazy woman I'm in love with, and figuring on a trip out to Michigan.

As to the crazy woman, it's over. We went through an entire relationship during a year of phone conversations: falling back in love, cooing sweet nothings, fighting and a "divorce". She does have some screws that seem intractably loose. I'm just glad I fournd out before I got in any deeper. She's one of those people who switch around a lot, almost instantaneously, and I decided I didn't need that in my life. It's sad, but it's also a relief to be done with it.

Computers. I'd really like to switch to Apple, but the nearest dealer is three hours away. In trying to fix my HP laptop I spent a bunch of time chasing my tail around the diagnostics, talking with tech people on the phone, etc. I'd really like to find a computer that speaks English!

Thanks to all for the kind words of welcome. It has actually been a good sabatical to not have a computer at my beck and call. I've joined two local libraries, made some new friiends.

Don't bother with a computer. Or a three hour drive to the apple store. Just splurge a little and order an IPad online or over the phone. It'll do all you need, no worries. It'll be the best $500 you've ever spent on a computer.

Thanks Tom. That's fairly new, though I don't get to the mall very often. When I first moved here, ten years ago now, there was a dealer in town. I'll have to take a drive up that way and have a look see.

IIRC you still connect to the Internet with a dial up service via a land line?

Keep in mind that you will be able to use an iPad at home to access the Internet only if you either spring for WiFi or purchase a monthly data plan from one of the major wireless providers.

I suppose you could connect to the Internet via something other than WiFi with a new iMac or Mac Mini, though I don't know why you would want to.

The purchase of a new PC or tablet will likely force you to join the 21st century regarding Internet connectivity.

I thought he had gotten a better internet connection, Tom. Even if he hasn't he'd just need to get a wireless router for his dialup to use the ipad. I really do think it would be great for him, I really like mine. One thing I would recommend would be a good pair of speakers for the ipad. Between Pandora and the Public Radio app there's lots of good listening. The Public Radio app is awesome. You can listen to any public radio station in the country, it'll tell you whats playing by location or by show and even has lots of on-demand stuff.

My only concern is that Jack is just enough of a Luddite to stubbornly resist such a solution. He seems to be stuck in 10 year-old technology.
