Small Boat Calendar?

I've enjoyed having one of the Wooden Boat or Classic Sail calendars in my office, but I wonder if the publishers would consider a small boats calendar? The Small Boats annual magazine is great but I wouldn't mind having something to admire year round.
I could make some suggestions:

The Oregon Coots do a very nice one with all of the boats they've built and a few visiting ones. But I do hear you, my interest is small boats and I'd be more inclined to buy a calendar showcasing same.

I second the idea also. Most talk on this forum is about small boats. But picture of Charlotte all framed up for Jan. sure stirred up a lot of interest from customers in my body shop that saw it

I love my Calendar of Wooden Boats. I get one every year for Christmas. But so many of those boats are completely out of my reach.

I would love a Calendar of Small Wooden Boats. It would be so great to see a collection of boats that are more within my reach. You know, day-dream material.

I think it's safe to say that without the dreamers and hobbyists that Wooden Boat Mag. would have a tougher time staying afloat. So many of us build, maintain and fantasize about small boats and a little more boat porn reminding us of this certainly wouldn't hurt.

Last year over on Duckworks someone published a "Bolger Boats" calendar by just asking people to email him photos of Bolger boats, then used Lulu or something similar to make a calendar that anyone could log onto the site and buy at cost ($10, I think). Turned out very well (and I'm not just saying that because my boat was January!) That would certainly be easy to do, and I know a bunch of people here must have great photos of great boats.

So, to take on this calendar thing and solicit photos, I nominate... someone else! Any seconds?

Seriously, if enough people express interest, I would do this--perhaps I could set up a poll or thread here to help decide between photos, etc. So if you think you'd buy a self-published Lulu calendar featuring photos from Forum members, let me know. I think it'd be fun to put together.

Such an approach can work just fine. Michael Storer and I are just coming down the home stretch on a Goat Island Skiff oversize calendar. The proof copy is on its way to may now. Not a money-making venture - just a way to show off our boats. We solicited images from all GIS owners, and started out with about 65, then slowly winnowed them down to the final dozen. It wasn't all that much work, and was a lot of fun

Hey, this sounds great. I've got photos from some messabouts of some really nice boats, and also a few taken from folks who know how to use a camera much better than myself.

Seems like at least some are interested, so let's see how this goes. If you have a beautiful photo of a beautiful small boat that you'd like included in a Small Boats calendar, send me a PM. I'd like to collec 'em all, put 'em on Photobucket or something, and then set up a thread to vote on selection. This will all be a strictly NON-money maker; the goal will be to create a calendar that anyone interested can log in and buy for themselves at Lulu's cost without anyone (me, for instance) having to keep track of orders.

But first, a question: what months should the calendar cover? Should it start with January 2013, or should it be made available ASAP (May/June, maybe?) and cover the rest of '12 and all of 2013, too?

The Delaware Chapter of the TSCA has put out a calendar of members' boats for about five years. Andy Slavinskas is the worker, and it makes for great Christmas Presents.

Sorry, I didn't see this thread before.

Just to clarify, "The Calendar of Wooden Boats" is not a WoodenBoat Publications production. The calendar is done by Benjamin Mendlowitz's company, Noah Publications. WoodenBoat has a close and cordial relationship with Ben, but he's not an employee here. His work in WoodenBoat is done on commission or on freelance basis. I'm sure it's accurate to say that the calendar is weighted toward larger classic sailing yachts, but it has always had a mix of boats. (My dory was in it, for example. That was January 2008, I believe.) Ben usually includes workboats, as well, and powerboats.

I'm not sure the broader wooden boat world would be well served by a "segregationist" approach. I'll never own a yacht, but I can appreciate the design and craftsmanship that goes into them. I've never worked on a fish boat, but that doesn't stop me from admiring them. The better sort of yachtsmen generally can appreciate fine small craft as well. Isn't that all to the good?

I would really, really, really like to have a small boats calendar.......I suspect it would be quite popular amongst the Woodenboat readers......also, how about Woodenboat nautical greeting cards? Most (not all) of companies that sell holiday nautical greeting cards carry those that are too "flashy" for my tastes....too much f--------s, too many gaudy colors, and a bit too juvenile. I have bought from Red Fern Studios in the past, they're pretty nice, and I've talked with them about concentrating even more on small traditional wooden craft.

Thanks for the clarification, Tom. Not intending to start a separatist movement; I'll admire any boat, big or small, if it's easy on the eyes. And I've enjoyed the previous calendars I've purchased. But I'm particularly fond of the small craft; there's some lovely designs out there, and a small craft is much nearer to being a reality for me than just a daydream.
