Plank bevels?

I have a vague memory (perhaps false) of some article in WB magazine where a guy devised a method to plane plank bevels in the plank that had just been hung to match the new one being fitted. Perhaps this was for strip / composite construction, and it might have involved a router. Does anyone on this forum know if this article ever existed? Or if there is a forum thread about it?

A router is a LOT louder and more complicated than a hand plane... this looks like it's not an improvement in procedure to me. What--and this is an honest question--but what is the advantage of using a router this way supposed to be?

Tom,

That router set up was used by Gert (since passed) when he was building his Grey Seal. He refers to Tom Hill as the originator of the system. Gert claimed the rig was fast and accurate. The thread link I posted has some of his comments.

Having just planked up a Caledonia Yawl, I can't ever imagine using anything but a low-angle block plane for cutting those lap bevels, and a rabbet plane for the gains.
